Dance (BFA)

Anne White was born in New York state and studied for eight years at The School of American Ballet in New York City. In 1988 she joined Off Center Ballet directed by Christopher d'Amboise and in 1990 joined The Pennsylvania Ballet also under the direction of Christopher d'Amboise where she performed for nine seasons dancing lead roles in works by George Balanchine, Peter Martins, Paul Taylor, Hans Van Manen, Lar Lubovich, Lynne Taylor-Corbett, John Cranko, Doug Elkins and Alvin Ailey among others. She originated roles in works choreographed by Christopher d’Amboise, Kevin O’Day, David Parsons, Rennie Harris and Tony Rizzi. Television work includes performing in the PBS WHYY- TV Pennsylvania Ballet spotlight documentaries Da Mummy Nyet Mummy and Philadelphia Muses.

Anne has also performed with artists Paule Turner, Myra Bazell, Pig Iron Theater Co, Melanie Stewart, Moncell Durden, Ilse Pfiefer, Mum Puppettheater and Phrenic New Ballet and was active as a performer, costumer and organizer of Shut Up And Dance- Pennsylvania Ballet Dancer’s annual benefit performance for MANNA in Philadelphia from 1993 through 1999. She toured with singer Alanis Morissette, as the assistant to choreographer Kevin O'Day and appeared in her music video So Pure. Anne served as rehearsal director for choreographer Jorma Elo and performed in Jerome Bel's piece The Show Must Go On both presented at The Philadelphia Live Arts and Philly Fringe. She served as rehearsal director for Israeli choreographer Itamar Serussi featuring Pennsylvania Ballet dancers and Curtis alumni in 2014, as the local casting director for Italian director Romeo Castellucci’s The Four Seasons Restaurant in 2015 and performed in French choreographer Jerome Bel’s Gala in 2016 all presented by FringeArts in Philadelphia.

Anne has represented UArts as a delegate at the 2015 Beyond Ballet Why And How Conference in Holland and Dance UK in London and the 2016 Society of Dance History Scholars Special Topics Conference in NYC. Since 2014, she has established performing and internship opportunities for students at FringeArts.
