Portal Available for Entering Grades Starting Today
You can begin entering your grades on the UArts Portal today, Monday December 12. See the Registrar’s website pages for full grading information and directions. Grades are due this Friday, December 16 at noon. Grades are locked and immediately visible to students after clicking SUBMIT. It is not necessary to submit grades for all students at once; ungraded students will remain available for grading after previous submissions. Grades entered in error must be corrected via a change of grade form.Please contact the Registrar’s Office at 215-717-6420 or registrar@uarts.edu with grading questions.

Annual Holiday Food Drive Sponsored by Staff Council
This is the annual Holiday Food Drive’s final week, ending Wednesday, December 14. Collection boxes are located in the main lobbies of Hamilton, Anderson, Gershman, Merriam and Terra Halls. Staff, faculty and students are encouraged to donate non-perishable food to support the efforts of Philabundance. Items should be recently purchased, unopened and in good condition. Boxed items, cans or plastic bottles only; no glass containers. Monetary donations also gladly accepted; please reference "On Behalf of the University of the Arts" on the check memo to acknowledge our campaign goal. Creative Writing Student Nominated for Emerging Writers Award
Senior Creative Writing major Emily Famularo was nominated for the inaugural PEN/Robert J. Dau Short Story Prize for Emerging Writers for her short story, "The Bad Outside," published last spring in Philadelphia Stories. This annual prize recognizes 12 emerging fiction writers for their debut short story published during the previous calendar year.

Work by Craft + Material Studies Director Displayed at Philadelphia Airport
Craft + Material Studies program director Mi-Kyoung Lee MFA ’96 (Book Arts/Printmaking) massive piece “Yellow Forest” is currently on display in Terminal E of the Philadelphia International Airport. The 40-foot by nine-foot sculptural form is created entirely out of thousands of industrial plastic twist ties, knotted together to bind the huge amounts of material into a singular structure. In "Yellow Forest," she has used the twist ties to create a field of color and texture that resembles a living wall.

Film + Video Faculty Member to Present at Barnes Foundation
At the Barnes Foundation, UArts Film + Video faculty member Sosena Solomondiscusses the prolific body of work of Henri Cartier-Bresson and his understanding of capturing a “decisive moment.” Bresson was one of the most influential photographers of the 20th century. He is most known for his street photography, capturing subjects using the fly-on-the-wall technique, which has made an enormous impact in the world of visual documentary storytelling.

Image & Performance Show at Caplan Studio Theater
The fall 2016 "Image & Performance" showing of selected works will be presented on Friday, December 13 at 9 p.m. in the Caplan Studio Theater. Staged each semester by students in Master Lecturer Kathy Rose's Image and Performance class, this interdisciplinary performance art show integrates live performance with video, costumes and lights.

Artwork from various elementary, middle and high schools in and around Philadelphia area is featured, Presented by UArts Art + Design Education students.

Unique Chairs, etc.
"Unique Chairs, Etc.," an exhibition at Allens Lane Art Center in Philadelphia, takes a look at chairs that invite, startle and amaze. The woodworks are presented by three artists affiliated with Philadelphia, notably UArts alumna Rebecca Kolodziejczak BFA ’16 (Craft + Material Studies) and Visiting Artist Keunho Peter Park, and, Marc Andre Robinson. They explore the literal and metaphorical concept of the chair. A throne by Kolodziejczak, a cocoon chair by Peter Park and sculpture by Robinson are folded together to give the viewer something new, when contemplating a structure designed for sitting or reclining.

Work by alumna and 2016 UArts President’s Award recipient Kathleen Greco BS ’79 (Industrial Design), MFA ’15 (Studio Art) is part of a collaboration with the Institute of Figuring exhibition Crochet Coral Reef: Toxic Seas on display at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City.

Alumni and Faculty Fiber Artists in Wayne Art Center Exhibition
Craft + Material Studies program Director Mi-Kyoung Lee MFA ’96 (Book Arts/Printmaking) curates "Making Marks," an exhibition at the Wayne Art Center that brings together 15 national and international fibers and textile artists. In addition to Lee’s own work, the exhibition features pieces by UArts faculty members Warren Seelig, Jeanne Jaffe and Andrew Dahlgren MID ’07, as well as alumni Cindy Friedman BS '78 (ID), Piper Shepard BFA ’85 (Fibers), Susie Brandt BFA ’84 (Fibers), Dot Vile BFA ’13 (Craft + Material Studies), Qiang Gong BFA ’13 (Craft + Material Studies), and Carla Fisher CERT '16 (Fibers/Textiles). Lee has also organized the participation of the Making Marks artists in the International Fiber Art Fair at the Hangaram Art Museum, Seoul Art Center in South Korea in June 2017.
