GD50: We Are Here
The UArts Graphic Design program commemorates its 50th anniversary with GD50: We Are Here. Alumni, students, faculty and representatives from the global design communities will gather to honor the program through a collection of exhibitions, events, a daylong symposium and an alumni celebration.

UArts at 140: The Maker's Moment
The fall of 2016 is an exciting time for the University of the Arts, as it marks the launch of the University's 140th Anniversary Celebration, "The Maker's Moment." This yearlong series of events will honor our impressive past and begin moving forward with President David Yager's ambitious vision for the institution's future. Kicking off in October, the celebration will run through Commencement in May 2017, and feature a series of exciting events and activities, including:

140th Anniversary Gala
A creative black tie fundraising gala featuring a performance by Philadelphia native and Hamilton star Leslie Odom, Jr.

Inauguration of President David Yager 
The ceremony includes a presentation of honorary degrees to Marvel Comics' Stan Lee (via video presentation) and to award-winning movie producer Ron Yerxa (Little Miss Sunshine, Nebraska), as well as student music, dance and theater performances. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend.

Connecting Alumni of the 1960s
In honor of the University of the Arts’ 140th Anniversary, host committee members William Krebs BFA ’66 (Interior Design), Elliot Rhodeside BS ’66 (Industrial Design) and UArts Trustee Deanna DeCherney BFA ’66 (Interior Design) invite all Philadelphia College of Art and Philadelphia Musical Academy alumni from the 1960s to return to campus on Broad Street for a daylong event reconnecting with fellow alumni and your alma mater.

NEWS
School of Dance Named Top 10 Program in U.S. by 'OnStage'
The University’s School of Dance was included in OnStage’s list of the Top 10 BFA Dance Programs in the Country for 2016-17. The School was also recently invited to Camping 2016, the Centre National de la Danse's international showcase and workshop held in Paris, France, the only American school that has ever been selected for this prestigious event. Earlier this year, UArts was ranked No. 4 on College Magazine's list of the Top 10 Schools for Dance.

UArts Joins 'It's On Us' Campaign to End Campus Sexual Assault
The University of the Arts has joined institutions across the country for the It’s On Us campaign, which focuses on sexual assault awareness and prevention on college campuses. It’s On Us advocates for a cultural shift surrounding sexual assault, by identifying what sexual assault is and situations in which it is beneficial to step in and prevent sexual assault from happening. UArts students, faculty and staff have worked together to create our own PSA. We encourage members of our community to take the pledge at itsonus.org. View the UArts PSA >>

ID Alum Launches Exclusive Mercedes-Benz Watch
Analog Watch Co., Philadelphia’s premier boutique watch brand founded by Lorenzo Buffa BS ’12 (Industrial Design), has announced the exclusive launch of a rosewood and leather watch designed for luxury brand Mercedes-Benz. Buffa’s company, which got its start with the help of a grant from the University's Corzo Center for the Creative Economy, can be found online, at its showroom on East Passyunk Avenue, at over 100 boutique retailers and through 30+ major museum stores, including the Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Art, the Getty and the Smithsonian.

National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month Film Screening
Counseling Services presents a screening of Hanging, an award-winning animated short by senior Nick LeDonne '17 (Animation) about his personal struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts. The screening is being held in conjunction with National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.

Visiting Writers Series: Annie Liontas
The University of the Arts' Visiting Writers Series is sponsored by the Creative Writing program and features acclaimed contemporary writers who visit campus each year. This reading features Annie Liontas, whose debut novel, Let Me Explain You (Scribner), was featured in The New York Times Book Review as Editor's Choice and selected by the American Book Association as a 2015 Indies Introduce Debut and Indies Next title.

REV Theatre Company presents Death Is a Cabaret Ol’ Chum: A Graveyard Cabaret, directed by Adjunct Associate Professor Rosey Hay, who is also REV’s artistic director. Free Lunchtime Yoga
September is National Yoga Month! Join licensed instructor Dawn Reid (E-RYT, RYT500, RPYT) for this 12-class series sponsored by Staff Council. Open to all faculty, staff and students and suitable for all levels, this weekly 45-minute free workshop is a beneficial opportunity to cultivate mindfulness, flexibility and breathing techniques. West Africa: The Road & The Quarry: David Pace
San Francisco Bay-area artist David Pace has been photographing in the West African country of Burkina Faso for over a decade. He lives for more than a month every year in the same house in the remote farming village of Bereba where he documents aspects of daily life. This exhibition features images from two of Pace’s ongoing projects: “Sur La Route (On the Road)” and “The Karaba Brick Quarry.”

The Black Islands - Spirit and War in Melanesia (1994-2012): Ben Bohane
Since 1994, Vanuatu-based photojournalist Ben Bohane has lived and reported on the Pacific islands. This exhibit traces a photographic journey through these beautiful but sometimes dangerous islands. He dwells on a variety of kastom, cult and cargo cult movements, documenting their rituals and the hidden role they have sometimes played in island society.

Accomplished Visions: The Arabs: Samer Mohdad
Based in Lebanon, photographer Samer Mohdad’s work explores the concept of Arab identity. He traveled widely for many years in the Middle East, North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, portraying the difficult everyday life of the people of these countries moving between war and faith, in unadorned and personal inside views and news.

Uncle Charlie: Marc Asnin
New York-based photographer Marc Asnin has been photographing his uncle Charlie for 30 years. By the early 1980s when Asnin was studying photography, the reality of his uncle’s life had trampled his boyhood fantasy.
