Natalia Jablonski '16 (Illustration) is top winner in senior thesis exhibit competition
Senior Natalia Jablonski '16 (Illustration) was named the first-place winner of the 2016 William H. Ely Excellence in Illustration Awards for her Yellowstone, Hawai’i Volcanoes, Katmai and Arches national park posters [above].
Winners of this annual juried competition are chosen from among submissions by the entire class of graduating Illustration majors, whose original artwork is displayed in the Ely Senior Illustration Thesis Exhibition, on display through April 2.
Second place honors went to James Firnhaber’s re-imagined albums as DVD packaging work [above], while Adem Kaan Sarioglu’s board game [below] took third place. Honorable mentions were awarded to Olivia Gomez, Hannah M. Lloyd, Kelly Migliori and Kailey Whitman.
Endowed by its namesake in 1940, the William H. Ely Senior Illustration Thesis Exhibition features art that spans virtually every area of the illustration field, including book and other publishing venues, advertising, entertainment design, comic books, video games, interactive work, store display, and product, game and package design.
Each thesis project is a thoroughly researched and highly developed series of a related body of work based on the student's chosen theme and market. A unique feature of the exhibition is that all of the illustration presented is shown in the context for which it was designed.
