JOB TITLE: New Student Programming Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Campus Life
REPORTS TO: Senior Director for Student Engagement
The New Student Programming Coordinator is a live-on role that is responsible for coordinating the New Student Orientation experience, developing first year programming with a focus on helping new students understand their campus resources and make meaningful connections, and assisting with the goals and initiatives set forth by the office of Campus Life. This position is a live-on professional who serves as a member of the On-Duty crisis response team and participates in a weekly on-call crisis response rotation and handles crises as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Under the direction of the Senior Director for Student Engagement and Director for Student Activities, creates a vision for new student programs and implements a yearly calendar of programs and events that provide opportunities for social exploration and familiarize students with resources
- Coordinates New Student Orientation under direction of Senior Director for Student Engagement
- Oversees the First Year Guides and Orientation Coordinators and their recruitment, training, mentoring, and programming
- Recruits, plans, and facilitates the Emerging Leaders program in the fall and/or spring semesters
- Serves in the On-Duty crisis response rotation
- Co-coordinates UArts Day activities and Student Leadership Awards
- Oversees the Marketing Assistants (work study students) and their creation of marketing materials for Campus Life programming
- Assists in day-to-day activities as needed in the Office of Campus Life including staff in-services and other duties as assigned

- An earned Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Education, Student Affairs, or similar area preferred
- Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in student activities, orientation, and/or a related field
- 1-2 years on call crisis response experience preferred
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent organizational and event planning skills
- General knowledge of student development theory
- Demonstrated ability to create a welcoming environment for students
- Ability to work with a diverse population of students
- Ability to execute large and small events, maintain a budget, and negotiate contracts with vendors
- Ability to run training sessions for student leaders and host leadership workshops
- Ability to work some weekends and one (1) evening a week during the academic year
- Ability to work in an on-call crisis response duty rotation being on-call 24/7 for one week at a time approximately 8 weeks a year
- Mental Health First Aid Certification preferred
- First Year Guides and Orientation Coordinators
