Maureen McTamney, LSW, is thrilled to be the new Counseling Fellow at UArt's Counseling Center! She is a recent graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where she obtained her Master's degree in Social Work. She attended Temple University's Tyler School of Art, where she hammered away (literally and figuratively) to acquire her fine arts degree in Metals/Jewelry/CAD-Cam.
Maureen can relate to the unique stress that only art school can bring and uses her empathetic therapeutic skills to help students struggling with the experience.
Maureen has experience working with a variety of mental health concerns and adopts a strength-based, trauma-informed approach in her work with students. She is trained in - and utilizes - a number of therapeutic techniques in order to help students find their unique path to healing. Her areas of specialty include: developmental disorder(s) related issues, depression, anxiety (generalized and social), trauma, mindfulness and stress-reduction, and LGBTQ related issues.
When Maureen is not at UArts, she is usually wandering about in search of the ultimate gluten-free brownie, or taking on a new artistic project.
