Music Education (MM)

Dr. Johanna J. Siebert is the retired director of Fine Arts for the Webster Central School District in western New York, where she supervised over 60 teachers in the Music and Visual Art programs. She is a member of NAfME’s Solutions Music Group, the NCCAS Music Standards writing team, chair for the NYS Standards Revision Team (Music), past-chair of NAfME’s Music Teacher Evaluation Task Force and the National Council of Music Program Leaders, and project director for NAfME’s Teaching with Primary Sources five-year grant from the Library of Congress. She has served on the editorial boards for the national publications Music Educators Journal and Teaching Music Magazine and contributed chapters to multiple professional publications. Currently, Johanna teaches and lectures at Eastman School of Music, Nazareth College, and the University of the Arts, and is working with multiple school districts in New York to revise and align their curricula to their new state standards. She presents frequently at state and national conferences on the topics of the National Music Standards; music literacy, curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment; effective teacher evaluation practices for music educators; and action research in school music programs.
