Joe DiDomenico graduated from University of the Arts in 1993 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration. He has more than 20 years’ experience as an illustrator and designer working in the children’s book, toy and specialty markets for companies such as DC Comics, the NFL and Running Press Book Publishing. DiDomenico has also worked at in-house design studios that had Jim Henson books, Kenner Toys, Lucas Books and Simon & Schuster on their client rosters.


For several years, DiDomenico worked as senior designer at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, where he helped develop the visual identity of the entire health system and worked closely with five different hospital locations under its umbrella. 

In late 2003, he struck out on his own and formed Applehead Factory Design Studio with his partners. As art director, DiDomenico’s love of horror movies helped him to create the brand Teddy Scares, which has spawned various product lines sold in more than 11 countries. Applehead Factory has several successful brands, for which DiDomenico continues to use his vision as an artist, an illustrator and a designer. 


  • At Applehead Factory Design Studio, DiDomenico has also worked with many successful, nationally recognized companies which include 20th Century Fox, Asylum Films, Bally’s Atlantic City, Eastern State Penitentiary, Hot Topic, Party City, Sea World, Six Flags Great Adventure, Spencer Gifts and WB Television. He has helped to bring their vision to life at the same time, building a design identity in the consumer market place. 
  • In 2016, DiDomenico was co-creator of Giant Dream Productions, a company that focuses on designing and building escape rooms and interactive sets. The company utilizes state-of-the-art technology for challenging logic puzzles and fully immersive environments.
  • A lifetime resident of Philadelphia, DiDomenico has been teaching at UArts since 2004.

DiDomenico has been recognized for outstanding achievements throughout his career, including by the Society of Illustrators and IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) for exemplary businesses.
