James Britt teaches in UArts’ Museum Studies program.

Biography

James Britt is an interdisciplinary artist and creative content producer based in Philadelphia. He is currently curator of exhibitions and programs at TILT Institute for the Contemporary Image, an organization in the Kensington neighborhood that is dedicated to supporting contemporary photographers and image makers of every level by fostering a space to learn, network, create, and engage in socially conscious dialogue.

Britt's previous professional roles include director of multicultural affairs at the School of the Art Institute Chicago, director of public engagement at the Institute of Contemporary Art Philadelphia, and associate director of engaged research at Monument Lab in Philadelphia. In addition to his professional affiliations, he is also an active member of Vox Populi, an artist collective in Philadelphia committed to providing a platform for experimental art, created by under-represented artists.

Experience:

  • Britt holds a BA in Sociology and African American/African Studies from University of Virginia; an MEd in Counseling Education from Virginia Commonwealth University; and an MFA in Art Theory and Practice from Northwestern University.
