Adriane Dalton
BFA ’04
Adriane Dalton is an artist, writer and educator based in Richmond, Virginia. Most recently, she was named interim editor of Metalsmith magazine. She also serves as teen programs coordinator for the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and teaches at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond and ART 180. She is a contributor to Art Jewelry Forum, for which she interviews contemporary jewelry artists, curators, collectors and gallerists.
Formerly the assistant curator and exhibitions manager for the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art in Logan, Utah, Adriane co-curated ARTsySTEM: The Changing Climate of the Arts and Sciences and contributed to the exhibition and programming for Black Mountain College: Shaping Craft + Design.
She earned an MA from Parsons, The New School for Design, in 2014, for which she studied the history of American studio craft and American popular and consumer culture. While attending graduate school, she held curatorial internship and fellowship positions with the Museum of Arts and Design and the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, in New York City.
Adriane’s appreciation for craft and love of jewelry and metalsmithing began while working toward a BFA in Craft and Material Studies at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Since graduating in 2004, her creative practice has evolved from traditional metalsmithing and enameling techniques to alternative and recycled materials. Her recent works incorporate disused and discarded materials to engage with the intersections of labor, class, gender and consumption.
Adriane’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally at Contemporary Craft, Pittsburgh; The Wayne Art Center, Wayne, Pennsylvania; Snyderman-Works Gallery, Philadelphia; A CASA Museu de Object Brasileiro, Sao Paulo, Brazil; the National Ornamental Metal Museum, Memphis; and Space 1026, Philadelphia.
