Deadline for Withdrawal Is Today, April 4
The deadline to withdraw from a course and receive a grade of "W" for the Spring 2016 semester is today, Monday, April 4 at 5 p.m. This date coincides with the academic policy in the UArts Catalogue: withdrawals are permitted through the tenth week of the semester. In order to withdraw from a course, a student is required to complete a Withdrawal from a Course form and have it approved and signed by their advisor. This form is available in the Office of the Registrar or online at registrar.uarts.edu in the Forms section. Once complete, the form must be brought to the Office of the Registrar for processing. If you have any questions, please contact the Registrar at registrar@uarts.edu or 215-717-6420.
9th Annual Student Employee Appreciation Week: April 11-15
The University of the Arts and the Office of Student Financial Services are proud to announce the 9th Annual Student Employee Appreciation Week. Each year, we set this week aside to recognize and reward the hard work and dedication of over 400 UArts work-study students working in 54 departments on and off the University campus. The highlight of the week is the announcement of the Student Employee of the Year. This year’s luncheon will be held on Wednesday, April 13 for the nominees, their supervisors and invited guests.

National Park Posters Win First Place in 2016 Ely Illustration Exhibition Awards
Senior Natalia Jablonski '16 (Illustration) was named the first-place winner of the 2016 William H. Ely Excellence in Illustration Awards for her Yellowstone, Hawai’i Volcanoes, Katmai and Arches national park posters. Second place honors went to James Firnhaber '16 (Illustration), while Adem Kaan Sarioglu '16 (Illustration) took third place. Honorable mentions were awarded to Olivia Gomez '16 (Illustration), Hannah M. Lloyd '16 (Illustration), Kelly Migliori '16 (Illustration) and Kailey Whitman '16 (Illustration).
Alum's MASS MoCA Exhibit Featured in 'The New York Times'
“Free Roses,” a major solo exhibition by UArts alumnus Alex Da Corte BFA ’04 (Printmaking) that is currently on view at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA), was featured in the Sunday, March 27 issue of The New York Times. Da Corte, who has become “highly sought-after in recent years for a riotous post-post-Pop sensibility,” transforms MASS MoCA’s galleries into a “ravishing and terrifying” environment of sculpture and video installations. Brind School Artist-in-Residence Nominated for Lortel Award
César Alvarez, an artist-in-residence at the Ira Brind School of Theater Arts and artistic director of the Brind School’s “Polyphone Festival,” has been nominated for a 2016 Lucille Lortel Award for music, lyrics and book in the off-Broadway musical “Futurity.” The show earned a total of five nominations, including Outstanding Musical. Winners of the 31st Annual Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway will be announced on May 1 at a ceremony at NYU’s Skirball Center.
Liberal Arts Professor Gives Illustrated Lecture
Liberal Arts Adjunct Associate Professor Virginia L. Bower gave an illustrated lecture titled “From Jingdezhen to the Forbidden City: Porcelain for the Imperial Household” in conjunction with the China Institute’s “We All Live in the Forbidden City" program, which explores the history and culture of Imperial China through this global icon. Bower spoke about imperial Chinese porcelain from the collection of the Palace Museum in Beijing, discussing both the artistry and ceremonial use of these famed artworks.
Crafts Alumna Featured on Cover of 'A Women's Thing!' Mag
Crafts alumna Dot Vile BFA ’13 (Fibers + Textile Studies) was interviewed in and featured on the cover of the Spring 2016 issue of A Women’s Thing!, the women's magazine that is redefining women's magazines.
Fibers Alumna Named Japan Creative Artist Fellow
Piper Shepard BFA ’85 (Fibers), a 2016 Art Unleashed Spotlight Artist and a 2015 UArts Silver Star Alumni Award recipient, was recently named a Japan Creative Artist Fellow 2016 by the Japan U.S. Friendship Commission. Shepard has been a faculty member and chair of the Fibers program at Maryland Institute College of Art for over 20 years. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Baltimore Museum of Art and the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, among others.
Printmaking Alum Featured on PBS Series
Alumnus Bobby Rosenstock MFA '09 (Book Arts + Printmaking) was featured on an episode of Broad & High, a PBS series on Ohio Public Television. Rosenstock is the proprietor of JustAJar Design and Press in Marietta, Ohio. Rosenstock prints for a number of clients, including Jack Daniels Whiskey, Philly’s Academy of Natural Sciences, Lucinda Williams, Taj Mahal, the Flaming Lips and many more musicians, breweries and small businesses in and around Ohio.

Presentation and lecture by two-time Academy Award-nominated director Mark Osborne, one of the directors of the animated blockbuster Kung Fu Panda. Osborne also directed The Spongebob Squarepants Movie and the first animated feature film adaptation of the classic French novella The Little Prince.

Due to high interest in this Center for Teaching and Learning Faculty Conversation, we are repeating it. The proportion of students with disabilities in higher education has been increasing in recent years and this trend is expected to continue. While many disabilities are apparent, disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorders and ADHD, which are extremely prevalent at UArts, are not. In this presentation, you will gain an increased understanding and appreciation for these impairments and how they affect the students you work with along with strategies for fostering student success. Darja Bajagić: Street Steve
Presented by the Rosenwald-Wolf Gallery. The images featured in “Street Steve” are of Valerie, culled from the online archive of Street Steve, a self-described “high functioning Lunatic” with a Nikon D7100 Single Lens Reflex, which he uses to shoot sex workers in Philadelphia, where he is based.
