A Message From Health Services
We’re located on the 3rd floor of Gershman Hall in Room 306. When classes are in session, we are open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. At present, we only take walk-ins, so students don’t need appointments.
Students come to us for all kinds of difficulties and concerns, such as the common cold, fevers and flu-like illnesses, women’s health problems, sexual health questions, musculoskeletal injuries such as sprains and strains, skin concerns like new-onset rashes, and other injuries. Encourage your student to come to Health Services if they have any such concerns. Many ailments and concerns can be treated in office, and we provide supplies to students (i.e., cough drops, over-the-counter sinus/allergy/pain/gastrointestinal medications) when appropriate.
If a student’s ailment or injury requires further care, we have two local providers that we work with: Jefferson Family Medicine Associates and YHEP are relatively close to campus. For example, if we assessed your student and were worried about a strep infection, we would make an appointment for that student at one of these locations. Provided that we make the appointment and send the student with our referral form, the appointment is usually free!
As parents, you can encourage your student to create habits that will help keep them healthy. Getting a flu shot, washing their hands, avoiding tobacco and nicotine products, getting enough sleep and focusing on nutritious foods may help students avoid illness. But please do remind them that we’re here if they need us!
Resident Assistant (RA) and Community Assistant (CA) Applications
The Office of Residence Life is excited to have opened the Resident Assistant (RA) and Community Assistant (CA) application process for the 2020–2021 academic year! The application period began Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. and will close Friday, Jan. 24, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.

RAs are compensated with room in a shared apartment and board (Gold Plan), a $100 monthly stipend, and professional development opportunities.
Community Assistants are paraprofessional live-in staff members who serve as liaisons and resources in the campus community during the Pre-College summer program. CAs receive room and board during the four-week summer program, training, a $1,800 stipend, and professional development opportunities.

Thanksgiving, End of Semester Building Hours and Winter Break
As the end of the term approaches, UArts building hours change to allow flexibility for students as they complete final projects. Though the buildings are now open 24-hours, we do not encourage students to work 24 hours per day. It might be helpful to remind your student about the importance of taking breaks and getting rest as finals, juries and critiques loom.
Building Access
Thanksgiving
University offices will close Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 3:00 p.m. and remain closed Thursday and Friday. Spring 2020 Tuition Billing
The spring 2020 billing cycle began Nov. 4, 2019, with a due date of Dec. 5, 2019. Students can view the spring term bill on the Student Account Center (SAC). The center allows users to view, pay or set up a payment plan. Students may share their student billing accounts with parents or other third parties by granting access.
To grant access to the Student Account Center, log into the Student Account Center, click Manage Account Access at the top and add an authorized user.
Students and families that plan on using a monthly payment plan can chose from the following plans.
- a five-month plan, beginning Nov. 10, 2019, and ending March 10, 2020
- a four-month plan, beginning Dec. 10, 2019, and ending March 10, 2020
- a three-month plan, beginning Jan. 10, 2020, and ending March 10, 2020
Note: All payment plans must be current to prevent any disruption in a student’s academic schedule.
Parents applying for a Federal Parent PLUS loan for the spring term should complete both the Parent Plus Application and a Master Promissory Note (MPN) at www.studentaid.gov (if the loan was not included when applying for the fall term).
Financial aid staff is not permitted to discuss or otherwise disclose academic or financial information (which includes but is not limited to academic standing, financial aid eligibility, GPA, grades, probationary status or scholarship eligibility) to anyone other than the student—except the federal and state agencies responsible for processing financial aid or having FERPA authority to access such information. This applies whether or not the student is a dependent or a parent pays the invoice. Students who wish to share any information with parents or third parties must complete the FERPA Disclosure form.
FERPA Disclosure Instructions
Students should go to mycampus.uarts.edu and log in to the UArts portal.
Click the “Forms & Request” link on the right-hand side of the page, which will lead to the Office of the Registrar: Form and Request page.
On the left, there’s a list of student electronic forms. Students should select the “FERPA Consent to Release” form and complete the requested data. There will be a dropdown box, in which they’ll need to select “Authorize Access to Protected Educational Records.”
Students can then check off which records they would like to share; they can choose one or as many as they wish.
Students can then add a parent or another third party to release their information to. They must include email addresses for each person added. Once the form is submitted, the parent or third party will be sent an email that includes a PIN number that must be provided when they call an approved office.
Advising and Registration: Spring 2020
It’s time for students to plan and register for next semester. All students can meet with their academic advisors during the advising period for guidance in planning their courses before registration starts.
Dates
- Advising Oct. 28, 2019 – Nov. 8, 2019
- Registration Nov. 18, 2019 – Feb. 3, 2020
Students are assigned an appointment time based on class level and number of credits completed. For example, senior students can begin registering on Monday, Nov. 18, and first-year students can begin registering on Thursday, Nov. 21. Registration stays open until the end of the registration period (Feb. 3).
Every student is assigned two advisors: one academic advisor from the Advising Center and one faculty advisor from their major.
Major program advisors and center advisors contact students via UArts email about their meetings. Students may contact their advisors anytime.
Read the complete guide to advising and registration.
Students should contact the Advising Center at advising@uarts.edu or 215-717-6818 if they have any questions.
