Parent’s Guide to Advising and Registration for Spring 2022
Advising and registration for spring 2022 will begin in November! All current students plan and register their spring courses in Student Self Service with the help of their advisors. New incoming students will be registered by their advisors and departments.
Advising: Nov. 8–Nov. 26, 2021
Registration: Nov. 29, 2021–Feb 7, 2022
This semester, advising begins November 8, and registration begins November 29. Students’ registration start times are assigned based on class level and the number of credits they’ve completed. For example, most rising senior students begin registration on Monday, November 29, while first-year students will begin registration on Thursday, December 3. Registration stays open until February 7, 2022.
Every student is assigned two advisors: one academic advisor from the Advising Center assigned to their school and one faculty advisor from their major program. Students can find their advisors listed in Student Self Service.
Major program advisors and center advisors will contact students about advising. And students may reach out to their advisors anytime.
Summer 2022 courses are already posted, and students can register for them now through the beginning of July. Summer is a great time for students to catch up, get ahead or spend some extra time learning and earning credits. Courses in Art History, Critical Dialogues, Literature, Psychology, Sociology, and Written Composition are available and offered at the special estimated rate of $640 per three-credit course. (Summer courses are not included in the academic year tuition).
A complete guide to advising, registration and degree planning is available in the university catalogue’s registration overview.
Advising & Registration Steps
- Students review the academic plan for their individual programs and catalogue year. (Academic plans provide a term-by-term recommended course sequence.)
- They review their degree progress and course plan in Student Self Service.
- Registration or academic record holds are resolved. Some holds prevent students from being able to register.
- Students plan their schedules for the upcoming term.
- They then schedule to meet with their individual advisors.
- Degree progress and course plans are reviewed by advisors.
- Finally, students register for planned course sections on or after their registration appointment time.
If your student has questions, encourage them to contact the Advising Center at advising@uarts.edu.
UArts Cares
We are committed to providing an environment that fosters compassion and respect, as well as basic needs justice for all. We refuse to accept hunger, homelessness, and all other basic needs injustices as part of our university. The UArts Cares Fund was established to address these issues by providing equitable access to basic needs and essential resources that impact our student’s health, belonging, persistence, and overall well-being.
As a vital part of our community providing ease of access to those seeking food and housing security, sustainable income, access to online learning tools (technology/wi-fi), art supplies, healthcare and transportation, UArts Cares helps students navigate and obtain these resources and more throughout the academic year.
Eligibility and What to Expect
University resources, through UArts Cares, are available to currently enrolled students. If you are not currently enrolled please see the National and Community Basic Needs Resources link provided.
In order for us to assess your need, students seeking services must fill out our UArts Cares Intake Form. Because we understand the urgency of your issue, we will reply to your inquiry as quickly as possible, typically within 24 hours. Some students may only need help once or twice during a semester; for others, it might be a regular weekly need. Our staff will continue to check in with students throughout the semester to provide support, as needed.
*Students with campus meal plans are not eligible to receive services from our grocery gift card program.

Though the buildings are now open 24-hours, we do not encourage students to work 24 hours per day. It might be helpful to remind your student about the importance of taking breaks and getting rest as finals, juries and critiques loom.
