Generations - March 2024

Welcome from Parent and Family Council

Dear UArts Families,

The fifth annual UArtist Day of Giving, held Feb. 27, was another rousing success in raising funds for UArts students. A huge thank you to everyone who supported this special day! To make a difference and learn how to support artists and the creative leaders of the future, visit Give to UArts

There’s a lot going on at UArts this month! First, UArts’ annual gala, UArts Unleashed, will be held March 21. It’s a spectacular evening of student exhibitions and performances that benefits scholarship funds. This year’s special edition of the gala will bring students from all disciplines together for a collective celebration of visual and performing arts.

Spring break is scheduled from March 9–17. Details regarding Residence hall and the Dining Services closures during this time are below. Advising and registration for summer and fall academic courses happen March 20–April 7. The Advising Center provides advising, tutoring, and other resources—including Career Services—to help support students. Encourage your student to identify opportunities that can help them further develop their boundless imagination. Finally, this issue includes details about the 2024–2025 housing application process.

Thank you again for all you do to support the university’s mission of advancing human creativity!

Sincerely,

Parent and Family Council

2024—2025 Housing Application

There are currently three primary student residence halls: Furness, Juniper, and Spruce. Students use an online housing portal and electronically sign an agreement. The 2024–2025 housing application is open until April 5. Campus Life, a part of Student Affairs, sent an email to current students containing the application link and details on the housing process.

Spring Break Hours & Information

Spring break is March 9–17. Though students may choose to leave campus during this time and recharge with family and friends, they may also stay on campus in their residence halls. However, dining locations close Friday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m. and reopen Sunday, March 12, at 4 p.m. To prepare for the break, Dining Services has increased its prepared and packaged foods, so students can pick up and store food to enjoy over the break.

Students staying on campus can join events and programs happening in the residence halls that are hosted by resident assistants. Students will receive an email containing the schedule of events on Monday, March 11.

Midterm Grades & Tutoring

Every semester, UArts undergraduate students receive midterm grades. Faculty members enter midterm grades at about the seventh week of the semester. The grades are visible to students immediately upon being entered, so midterm grades might not all be available to your student on the same day. To access their grades, students log in to Student Self Service using their portal username and password and click Grades.

Midterm grades do not factor into a student’s term or cumulative GPA, but they do help students determine their progress in their courses. Midterm grades are based on completed and graded assignments, tests, papers, or projects that comprise 30 to 50% of the final course grade. Student participation may also be graded at midterm. If your student has any questions about their midterm grades, they should contact their specific course instructor(s). They may also contact their academic advisor or email advising@uarts.edu.

The Advising Center will follow up with all students who receive D or F midterm grades to offer guidance and support and let them know that academic support is available to them.

Additionally, tutoring is free for all students. They can receive tutoring for general writing and study skills and for many courses, including Critical Studies and studio, production, and performance classes. Tutoring can help students catch up on assignments and improve their skills and grades. Those interested in tutoring may schedule appointments at web.penjiapp.com. They just need to sign in and select the course, time, and tutor. Students may also email tutoring@uarts.edu at any time if they have questions or need help scheduling appointments. For more information about tutoring, visit Tutoring at UArts.
