Ellen Reynolds is a documentary filmmaker and an educator and has worked as an academic postproduction supervisor, and as a freelance editor and consultant. At UArts, she is an adjunct professor of Video Production and The Art of Editing at UArts.

Biography

Ellen Reynolds’ areas of specialization are cinematic portraiture, children’s film, media literacy, and world cinemas. Technically, her skills include single-camera fieldwork, color grading, stop motion, and compositing. Currently, she is at work on a series of portraits of elder, local African American artists, and on custom-made family documentaries. Meanwhile, Reynolds continues to enjoy supporting learners of all ages to explore the medium of film/video, so they can develop their own voices and purpose. 

Experience

Reynolds has vast experience in production, postproduction, and education. 

  • She holds an MA in Media Studies with a concentration in Documentary and Media Education (2017) from The New School, New York.

  • Reynolds has advanced instructor certification in DaVinci Resolve editing software.

  • She served as manager of video production, studio, and postproduction at The Annenberg School of Communication from 1990 to 2001.

  • She was head of postproduction, facility, and instructor of video production at the University of Pennsylvania School of Design from 2001 to 2015.

  • Reynolds is an independent documentary cinematographer and editor.

  • She is co-founder and producer of Provenance Profiles, which specializes in commissioned documentary history portraits of and for families.

  • From 2008 to 2020, Reynolds served as a project facilitator and an educator at local organizations, such as Scribe Video Center and PhillyCam.

  • From 2018 to the present, she is a designer and a workshop leader of Stop Motion Animation production workshops for middle school students at Mighty Writers West, Philadelphia, and Westtown School in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

  • Reynolds is an instructor of Video Production, Editing, and World Cinemas at University of the Arts and Jefferson University in Philadelphia, and in Pre-college programs at UArts.
