Theater - Directing, Playwriting & Production (BFA)

David Jacobi has been teaching at UArts since 2016. Previously, he taught playwriting at University of California San Diego.

Biography

David Jacobi was born in Suffolk County, New York, and was introduced to theater through professional wrestling and punk shows. He earned his BFA in Dramatic Writing from State University of New York Purchase and his MFA from  University of California San Diego.

Experience

  • Jacobi’s plays have been performed and developed throughout the U.S. and in China, including at 

    • Great Plains Theatre Conference, Omaha, Nebraska;

    • Kennedy Center MFA Playwrights’ Workshop, Washington, D.C.;

    • Ojai Playwrights Conference, California; 

    • PlayPenn, Philadelphia;

    • Portland Center Stage’s JAW Festival, Oregon; 

    • Risk is This Festival, San Francisco; 

    • Salt Lake Acting Company Playwrights’ Lab, Salt Lake City, Utah; and 

    • Sideshow Theatre, Chicago.

  • Jacobi’s play Ready Steady Yeti Go is currently receiving a Rolling World Premiere through the National New Play Network. 

  • He was the 2015 Shank Fellow at Pig Iron Theatre Company, Philadelphia, and is currently an Interact Core Playwright and has been commissioned by the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Colorado, and South Coast Repertory, Costa Mesa, California.
