The emphasis of the Social Media Marketing Certificate program is on developing a digital skillset for producing online content and gaining a proficiency in data analysis related to social media marketing. Valerie Hoke is an editor on ChatterBlast Media's creative team, where she oversees content creation for clients such as Comcast, Hitachi Consulting and Aqua America. She graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelor's degree in English and has written for publications like Technical.ly Philly and the Phoenix New Times.

If accepted, students must submit a non-refundable matriculation fee of $100 to hold their place in the program. The matriculation fee is used to cover costs associated with the certificate program such as UArts CS student photo ID and computer lab access.
Social Media Marketing Course Sequence
Participants complete the 12-credit course sequence in three semesters (Spring, Summer, Fall). All classes are five weeks long. Classes meet on campus once a week on Tuesdays from 6-9 pm. Additionally, students attend two Thursday night guest speaker events (Spotlight Case Study, Brand Side, Creative Brief, Agency Life Presentation) as well as the last Thursday night of the five-week block to present final projects.
1: Overview of Social Media Marketing
Social media represents one of the most significant changes in consumer media behavior in history, resulting in fundamental shifts in the way marketers communicate and interact with audiences. This course provides practical knowledge to implement strategies towards effective use in your organization. You will develop an understanding of the changing world of social media, considering editorial calendars, appropriate use, social listening, policy and copyright, website optimization, emerging platforms, resources management, and content development. 2: Effective Writing for Digital Content
Writing engaging copy is essential to any digital marketing strategy. However, traditional copywriting does not always translate effectively to the digital landscape. New marketing channels created by evolving digital technology require new ways of communication. Learn the techniques to develop and create copy for marketing emails, websites, online advertising, social media, blogs and mobile technologies. By the end of the course you'll have completed several pieces of a digital marketing campaign for your portfolio. Features a spotlight case study. (Second course | 2 cr | 5 Weeks | $640)
3: Project Management
From business development to project management, this course offers a comprehensive guide to best practices for digital agency operations. You will examine all aspects of digital agency operation from finding the right clients and negotiating the best price for your services, to contract writing basics, efficient scheduling, and managing project workflow. You will be able to scope potential work, create project tasks and identify and confirm user requirements, including interviewing techniques, and present solutions to common project problems. 4: Visual Creative for Digital Media
This course covers branding, photography, video, and graphics tools for creating graphs, infographics, and other elements that are essential to an effective social media strategy. (Fourth course | 2 cr | 5 Weeks | $640)
5: Digital Marketing Strategies
Digital media and mobile and smart technologies have made way for new marketing channels. Today’s marketers must be familiar with the ever-evolving digital landscape to stay connected and relevant to their customers. In this course, learn how to drive traffic to a website through a multi-channel approach and convert visitors into customers. You will also learn how to create effective digital campaign strategies using viral marketing, social media, email and online ads. (Fifth course | 2 cr | 5 Weeks | $640)
Final Course: Assessing, Analyzing + Monitoring Social Media
Gain a functional understanding of various monitoring and analytic options across a wide variety of platforms, with a focus on applying these to real-world needs. Create a portfolio of monitoring plans and samples during in-class assignments. (Final course | 2 cr | 5 Weeks | $640)
