JOB TITLE: Admissions Counselor

DEPARTMENT:  Admissions

REPORTS TO:  Associate Director for Undergraduate Recruitment

Summary:

Admissions Counselors work to recruit, counsel, and enroll qualified undergraduate students, working to achieve the University’s enrollment goals.  Counselors also work closely with high school guidance counselors and art teachers, and two-year college faculty and administrators, cultivating long-term relationships, continuously informing the enrollment pipeline. They are responsible for assisting the student through the admissions process, acting as a liaison to other campus departments, and serving as the student’s advocate.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Strategically plans, schedules, conducts, and supports a variety of on-campus, off-campus and virtual recruitment events.
  • Maintains a rigorous travel schedule throughout the recruitment season, including evening and weekend hours.
  • Identifies and recruits prospective freshman and transfer students from assigned territories and events; supports prospective students through the inquiry, application, and enrollment process.
  • Assists with and conducts University-sponsored events including Audition Days, Admit One, Open Houses, Portfolio Days, Counselor Days, etc.
  • Regularly performing information sessions and tours for prospective students and families.
  • Provides superior customer service to students, families, and other stakeholders through the entire admissions process during in-person, phone, email, and text interactions.
  • Collaborates with all departments and offices across campus to support recruitment and enrollment.
  • Reviews portfolios of prospective visual art and creative writing students and applicants, offering constructive feedback. 
  • Provides follow-up correspondence to prospective students, teachers and guidance counselors after high school visits, portfolio days, interviews, college fairs, etc.
  • Populates, maintains, and updates applicant database with current and relative information in a timely manner.
  • Processes, reviews, and renders decision recommendations for undergraduate applications. 
  • Manages and completes special assignments and projects, as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in visual or performing arts, or 1-2 years directly related experience in visual or performing arts.

Experience:

  • 1 to 2 years of prior experience in a customer-service related position.
  • Preferred: Two or more years of related experience as a student employee or professional in a secondary school or institution of higher education.

  • Understanding of technology, and how it informs and supports business practices.
  • Computer skills including proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, customer relationship management systems, student information systems, and the ability to learn new systems quickly and thoroughly.
  • Ability to travel nationally with current driver’s license.
