JOB TITLE: Adjunct Professor for Drum Set
DEPARTMENT:  School of Music
REPORTS TO:  Program Director/Dean
DURATION OF APPOINTMENT: Semester Appointment (15 weeks)
CREDIT HOURS: 3 per course
Summary: 
The School of Music at University of the Arts seeks an Adjunct Professor for the instruction of Applied Drum Set. 
The University is particularly interested in reviewing applications from candidates with demonstrated investment in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, and whose identities and/or professional work intersect with or address historically marginalized communities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 
●    Provide applied drum set instruction in weekly private lessons
●    Teach from a foundation in jazz and classical traditions, while incorporating multiple styles of drum set performance. 
●    Attend department juries
●    Attend voluntary department meetings and workshops
●    Establish an inclusive and equitable environment and demonstrate an understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of the University’s faculty, staff, and students
●    Complete all tasks and submit all required teaching materials, including but not limited to course syllabus, assignments, assessment of student work, providing constructive feedback, and issuing grades
●    Make yourself available to students for in-person or virtual office hours
●    Consider student feedback and contribute ideas for improving the student experience for this course

Education:
●    A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required
●    A Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field is preferred
Experience:
●    Prior teaching experience is required
●    Experience teaching at the college level is preferred

●    Ability to utilize diverse instructional methods and adapt to student needs
●    Open-mindedness and broad range of experience in regards to musical styles and approaches
●    Awareness of and sensitivity to cultural perspectives other than your own
●    Ability to foster an environment or equity, inclusion, and belonging in the classroom
●    Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Minimum Salary:
•    $1,275 per credit is the minimum, however salary rates are – commensurate with professional and academic experience 
o    $70 per hour
