Position: Junior Web Administrator

Position Description:
The Junior Web Administrator will be responsible for providing support to the web team and OTIS, reporting to the Web Manager, and will help to implement new technologies as well as assist in management of current web applications and sites.

This position is geared toward someone with 1-3 years’ experience who has worked with web applications and has basic coding skills. The ideal candidate must have demonstrated interpersonal and organization abilities.  The candidate must be able to work independently and meet deadlines.  This is a fast paced and varied environment.  Candidate must have troubleshooting abilities and attempt to solve problems on their own.  Candidate will serve as backup to the Web Manager.  

The candidate will manage and improve upon out of the box web applications, will learn to build custom sites/applications, will learn server administration, will learn to create/manage sites using CMS’s in particular Drupal and Wordpress, as well as a variety of other technologies.  Candidate will code but in this position you will also be involved in web administration, server management, operations, building vendor/client relationships and much more.  We are a small group that is involved with supporting many University web services and building custom solutions.  

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with University constituents to determine web requirements
  • Administer/configure web applications like our portal, wiki, emergency alert system, mobile applications, etc. 
  • Assist with group, role and permissions assignment.  Learn our LDAP structure.
  • Roll out new applications and services as identified by supervisor and management.
  • Perform complete testing of web applications.
  • Work with vendors.
  • Participate in meetings where web projects are reviewed and discussed.
  • Be involved in site building, coding, front-end development, building and maintaining new and existing sites for organizations, events and groups, including the main university website.
  • Manipulate data (in form of feeds, ex. XML, JSON) for use with web applications.
  • Assist in Linux server management. 
  • Train staff/faculty to use web technologies on campus (when necessary)

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in computer science, MIS, or related experience.

Knowledge/ Skills/ Competencies:

  • Ability to troubleshoot and handle client requests, which may include updating code, content, and functionality.
  • Thorough understanding of HTML, CSS and coding standards.
  • Thorough understanding of JavaScript and jQuery.
  • Basic knowledge of LAMP architecture.
  • Knowledge of responsive design builds. 
  • Familiarity with multi-stage deployment. 
  • Familiarity with CAS and LDAP authentication a plus.
  • Familiarity with code versioning, git and svn a plus. 
  • Knowledge of CMS’s a plus.  In particular Drupal and WordPress.
  • Basic server administration skills working with popular Linux distros (RedHat, Ubuntu, CentOS) a plus.
  • Previous experience working in an education environment a plus. 
  • Able to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines.
  • Able to promptly answer support related email, phone calls and tickets.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills.
