JOB TITLE: Social Media Specialist

DEPARTMENT:  Enrollment Marketing

REPORTS TO:  Director for Web and Digital Strategy

Summary:

Reporting to the Director for Web and Digital Strategy, the Social Media Specialist strategizes for, creates content, posts and manages University of the Arts’ social media channels, based on the online behavior of prospective students, educators and counselors, parents, donors, press, and general audiences. The Social Media Specialist will also monitor account activity and lead the university’s efforts to remain relevant, engaging and on the leading edge of social media content that effectively and successfully tells the University of the Arts story and communicates the culture of University of the Arts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Together with the Director for Web and Digital Strategy and AVP for Enrollment Marketing, contribute to setting paid and organic social media strategy for the university with the primary goal of growing engagement with prospective student audiences and their influencers.
  • Maintain a bird’s eye view of social media channels and University presence.
  • Working with the Director, remain current with trends in social media, making recommendations for content strategy on existing channels, and/or creation of presence on new channels.
  • Strategize a sustainable balance of actionable, shareable, engaging, cutting-edge content per channel that builds and strengthens the university’s audiences.
  • Create original, authentic, high-quality content for prospective student audiences.
  • Monitor the university’s social media channels on a daily basis.
  • Maintain paid social media advertising campaigns.
  • Lead a student think tank for the development of specific content and guide the group on content strategy and execution.
  • Work with other communicators across campus to ensure all university social media channels are following best practices and working to grow their audiences.
  • Build and maintain a content calendar.
  • Identify compelling stories university wide.
  • Track, report and respond to social media metrics and engagement, trouble-shooting and pivoting when necessary.
  • Initiate innovative ideas for digital marketing efforts.

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in marketing or communications. An equivalent combination of education and experience considered.

Experience:

The Social Media Specialist role requires an individual who is steeped in social media knowledge and creativity, as well as best practices for the creation of and strategy for both paid and organic social media content.

  • A minimum of one year of relevant experience.
  • Experience in content and/or digital marketing preferred.

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

The Social Media Specialist has a combination of content marketing, excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, and a fundamental understanding of the current and future landscape of social media marketing and communications.

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in marketing or communications. An equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
  • A minimum of one year of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with social media scheduling software and deep knowledge of social media platforms is required.
  • Up to date on the latest trends and developments in social media marketing.
  • Strong understanding of visual storytelling, branding, digital marketing.
  • Ability to think strategically about the University’s brand identity and marketing strategies.
  • Experience in digital marketing preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate and work within a team environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Collaborative approach to project management and participation.
  • Strong attention to detail and an attitude of proactivity.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Oversees work-study students.
