  • Motivated students of all backgrounds who meet the below criteria and demonstrate the ability to succeed in the program.

  • Rising juniors and seniors or international students of equivalent grade level (residential or commuter).

  • Rising sophomores  (commuter only).

  • Rising freshman are eligible to register as commuters for Studio Workshops (2-weeks)

How to Apply to Art, Media & Design

  1. Complete a Summer Institute application form.

  2. Make a nonrefundable deposit of $200 when you apply. The deposit will be returned only if a student is denied admission.

  3. Include a 300-word-maximum personal statement that explains why you want to attend the program and what you hope to gain from the experience.

How to Apply to Dance

  1. Complete a Summer Institute application form. 
  2.  Audition: You can audition in person or submit a digital video via Youtube or Vimeo.

    • Audition Requirements: Audition should include up to five minutes of a technical demonstration at the barre and/or center.  Audition should also include a two-minute solo piece.

    • In-Person Auditions: Saturday, March 7 (1:15 PM) atSummer Institute Open House If you plan to audition in-person, please RSVP and indicate this on your application.  

  3. Make a nonrefundable deposit of $200 when you apply. The deposit will be returned only if a student is denied admission.

How to Apply to Music

  1. Complete a Summer Institute application form.

    • Students are accepted into the program in one of the following performance areas: Bass (upright or electric), Drum Set,  Vibraphone, Flute, Guitar, Piano, Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet or Voice

    • Audition Requirements: A prepared 1-2 minute piece that demonstrates a range of technical and improvisational abilities & a sight-reading exercise.  View instructions

    • In-Person Audition: Saturday, March 7 (1:15 PM) at Summer Institute Open House.  If you plan to audition in-person, please RSVP and indicate this on your application.

Apply By Mail
You may submit your completed application materials & program deposit (credit card or check made payable to University of the Arts) by mail if preferred. Please make sure that your application is complete before you mail it. Applications cannot be reviewed until they are complete.

  • Open house & in-person auditions: Sat, Mar 7
  • Priority deadline: Sat, Mar 7
  • Scholarship application deadline: Fri, Mar 20
  • Scholarship notification: Fri, Apr 10
  • Balance and payment due: Fri, May 15 ($60 late fee after May 15)
  • Automatic withdrawal for students with unpaid balances: Fri, May 29
  • Residential move-in: Sun, Jul 5
  • Classes begin: Mon, Jul 6
