JOB TITLE: Instructional Designer

DEPARTMENT:  University Libraries

REPORTS TO: Director, University Libraries

Summary: Working with faculty across the performing and visual arts, as well as in screenwriting and creative writing, general education, and graduate and professional programs, the Instructional Designer provides professional consultation and advice on designing and delivering UArts courses across all modalities: in-person, remote, online, and hybrid. They assist with matching instructional techniques to pedagogical goals, leveraging relevant technologies where appropriate. The Instructional Designer supports faculty as they help students achieve defined learning outcomes.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Consults with individual faculty and academic departments to help design and develop course structure, materials, and activities, and to leverage existing and emerging technologies to support student learning
  • Provides training and resources for faculty in online pedagogy, instructional design, the University's learning management system, and related instructional technologies.
  • Helps develop and ensure compliance with internal standards and guidelines for distance-delivered courses
  • Collaborates with the leadership of academic departments to expand remote and online offerings
  • Assists faculty to ensure course materials meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements for accessibility
  • Researches and incorporates current industry trends, proven instructional strategies, and quality measures and shares these results with the appropriate stakeholders across the University
  • Assists with the administration of the University’s learning management system, focusing on the student and faculty user experience

Education:

  • Coursework or equivalent experience in instructional design, instructional technology, and/or learning theory. A masters degree is preferred.

Experience:

  • Professional experience or coursework in instructional design, instructional technologies, and learning theory
  • Experience assisting faculty in course design, higher education experience is desirable
  • Experience with deploying educational technologies, including a learning management system. Experience with Canvas is desirable.
  • Experience with arts education is desirable, especially in higher education

  • Knowledge of instructional design, universal design and inclusive teaching, learning theories, and current and emerging educational technologies

  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively within teams
     
  • Ability to design, develop, and deliver interactive training to groups and individuals
     
  • Ability to write and edit instructional material and training documentation
     
  • Ability to work with technical and non-technical staff and faculty
     
  • Skill in creating content using a variety of graphics, multimedia, productivity, web-based, and social media applications
     
  • Ability to learn quickly new educational and productivity technologies
