2023 Holiday Card
The 2023 UArts holiday card represents a collaboration between UArtists Greta Poglinco ’25 (Graphic Design) and Adiah Siler ’24 (Creative Writing).
This card was inspired by origami, creative paper folding, and quilt patterns; particularly, how these artforms fuse aesthetics and function. Additional inspiration came from decorative and pattern typography.
“We wanted to use iconography and phrasing that felt traditionally holiday oriented but also fresh and unique,” explained Siler. “Our goal was to breathe new life into a classic style of card.”
Collection of vintage blue ink prints of typography patterns as inspiration for the fortune teller card concept.
60’s and 70’s inspired prints and patterns for the more traditional fold concept.
Quilt patterns and color palettes for the final 3 fold card design.
Abstract triangular quilt patterns for final 3 fold card design.
Typographic pattern inspiration.
Different ideas on the form of the card, pop-up, and ornament based folds as well as the fortune teller fold explored before landing on the final 3 fold design.

True to the UArts spirit of artistic exchange, this project relied on students forming a partnership across disciplines. Poglinco and Siler found the collaborative process invaluable, as syncing the writing and design contributed to a meaningful and beautiful final piece. Poglinco explained that “collaborating with Adiah was very informative about how medium creates message.”
The recipients were top of mind as the project progressed. The goal was to make the piece feel like a present—one to keep and enjoy for years to come.
In Poglinco’s words, the collaborators strove to create “a message and design that could capture some childlike wonder and inspire unity and imagination in these cold months.”
The UArtists
Greta Poglinco ’25 (Graphic Design) | Hi! My name is Greta Poglinco, and I am a Graphic Design major and a Painting and Art History minor at University of the Arts. I love bringing interesting and meaningful projects to life and creating distinct visual languages through graphic design. My work emphasizes the beauty of color and pattern found within typography. Crafts and fine arts are a huge inspiration to me, as is the importance of narrative and storytelling with design. I enjoy painting and media outside design, as they often provide perspective in key artistic principles. Aside from art, I love watching movies and cooking in my spare time.
Adiah Siler ’24 (Creative Writing) | I’m Adiah Siler and I’m a Creative Writing senior here at Uarts! I love utilizing the skills I’ve been honing here at Uarts to help others and spread joy in a practical, sustainable way. My work focuses mainly upon the voices of the disenfranchised, and using my space and art to make others feel happy and seen is what I’ve always wanted to do.
