Profile
Randy received his BA in Studio Music and Jazz Performance from the University Of Miami School of Music in 1997. Immediately upon graduating, Randy was hired to play lead trombone for the legendary Motown groups the Four Tops and the Temptations. As an integral member of this nine-piece horn section, he toured extensively across the country during the following five years, giving him a chance to further develop his lead playing and improvisational skills. Randy now contracts his own horn sections for the Four Tops on occasion.
Throughout his career, Randy has had the opportunity to perform or record with such as artists as Tito Puente, Aretha Franklin, Joe Henderson, Gerry Mulligan, Joe Lovano, Maria Schneider, Chico O’Farrell, KC and the Sunshine Band, The Spinners, Mary Wilson (of the Supremes), Kenny Rogers, Frankie Valli, Bill Watrous, Paul Shaffer, Robert Goulet, and many others. After residing in Miami, Montana, New Orleans, and New York, Randy has enjoyed allowing his roots to grow in his home town of Philadelphia, where he works as a trombonist and composer/arranger for jazz ensembles, studio orchestras, signer/songwriters, and various rock acts. Playing in the Lars Halle Jazz Orchestra continues to be one of his most gratifying endeavors in town.
At UArts, Randy teaches trombone, improvisation, and directs various ensembles; he also serves as Assistant Director for the UArts/Grammy Philadelphia High School Regional All-Star Jazz Band.
