Richard Genovese

Rich Genovese is a versatile tenor and bass trombonist who also has doubled on tuba. He performs at several venues primarily in the Philadelphia, Atlantic City and New York areas. He has played in theater orchestras in Philadelphia and on Broadway. Classically, Rich has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Pennsylvania Ballet, the Philadelphia Opera Company and the Bel Canto Opera Company. In Atlantic City, he performs in many casinos and showrooms. 

Rich has performed and/or recorded with countless jazz, R&B, motown and classical artists. A sampling of artists he performed with include Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Harry Connick Jr, Michael Bublé, The Temptations, Diana Krall, Mel Tormé, Frank Sinatra Jr, Bernadette Peters, Lorna Luft, Liza Minnelli, Elvis, Bobby Rydell, Frankie Valli, Frankie Avalon and Jack Jones; a few classical artists are Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Andrea Bocelli. 


Rich recorded at Philadelphia International Records and Sigma Sound Studio. A partial listing of "The Sound of Philadelphia" artists he recorded, performed and/or toured with include MFSB, The Salsoul Orchestra, The Spinners, The Stylistics, The O’Jays, Sister Sledge, The Delfonics, Teddy Prendergast, Marvin Gaye, Lou Rawls, Billy Paul, The Intruders and The Tramps. Rich "Basketball" Genovese received eight gold R&B records for his contribution on some of these recordings.


At UArts, Rich teaches trombone and directs ensembles. Because he feels so strongly in passing his knowledge of music to the next generation, he also has taught at the secondary level and conducts trombone clinics and workshops at various high schools.


Rich is actively involved with ensuring the rights of musicians and the preservation of the profession. He is Vice-President of the Philadelphia Local 77, Vice-President of the Atlantic City Local 661708 and Member-At-Large for the Theater Musicians Association.
