Michael Wellenreiter is an Assistant Professor in the Film/Video Department at the University of the Arts. He currently teaches film production courses including Senior Thesis, Junior Cinema Production, and Sound Design, and has taught courses in film theory, screenwriting, and collaborative web series production in the past.
As an independent film director, he is a founder of the Philadelphia-based production company Severine Pictures. Michael has directed four narrative feature films to date, including two with actors from the West African immigrant community in Philadelphia. Entitled Once Upon a Lie and Legalization, these films have been screened in Liberia and Sierra Leone, and have been written about in the Philadelphia Inquirer and Front Page Africa. His latest feature, an arthouse thriller entitled La méduse rouge, is currently in post-production.
His directing work on surreal narrative music videos has also garnered critical attention. Works for such bands as Pink Skull, Mahogany, Prowler, The Teeth, Gildon Works, and Whales & Cops have been viewed internationally.
