Alex Mitnick, as leader of Alex & the Kaleidoscope Band, has performed extensively in theaters, festivals, libraries and schools throughout the country with lively, interactive family-friendly entertainment. The group has been featured on New York's CW11 Morning News and FOX 29 morning news in Philadelphia, and has appeared at the Annenberg Center in Philadelphia, Brooklyn Children's Museum, Chicago Children's Museum, Longwood Gardens in Pa., Philadelphia's World Café Live, Chicago's Lincoln Park & Brookfield Zoos, The World Bank, The Sonoma County Fair, and The Philadelphia Museum Of Art, to name just a few.
Alex began writing musicals for children focused on peace and communication at the Princeton Montessori School before releasing his first album for children in 2004. Since then he has released four albums for children that blend an energetic and eclectic mix of original world music with insightful and inspiring lyrics. Focused on self-awareness and appreciation of the world around us, Kaleidoscope Songs has received national acclaim and awards for incorporating fun and learning through the power of music.
Alex began teaching music to young children while in college at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Jazz Performance for Guitar. In addition to touring with The Kaleidoscope Band, Alex directs the music program, for eighteen months to eighth grade, at the Princeton Montessori School in Princeton, N.J. where, since 2000, he has inspired kids of all ages through music and musical theatre productions. He is also a faculty member at The Princeton Center For Teacher Education where he directs workshops for teachers and counselors.
