Music Subject Reference Guides
The annotated reference guides below have been created by the Music Librarian in order to assist students in the initial stages of research. They are intended to provide a kind of self-directed tutorial or orientation to specific fields of music study from the point of view of their most important reference materials. (In most cases there are also paper handouts with similar information available in the Music Library.) Note that only reference works (subject dictionaries, bibliographies, historical surveys, indexes) are described here--and only a selection of these. Learning to negotiate such resources will lay the foundation for independent exploration, study, and research.
