UArts Running Club

After a long day creating at a computer, experimenting in a studio, or paying attention in the classroom, running is a great way to de-stress and exercise your creative juices.

History
Runner and Director of Student Development & Activities Steve Scaduto started the club in January 2007. At the time, many students and coworkers were asking if they could train with him for the Broad Street Run so he decided to organize formally into UArts Running Club. The team has about 10 students and six faculty and staff members.

Spring Schedule
Spring’s training schedule is dedicated to training for the 10-mile Broad Street Run. Practice is held three days a week and begins at 6 p.m. in Solmssen Court, Hamilton Hall. A small fee is required to pay for Broad Street Run registration and t-shirts.

Fall Schedule
The popularity of the club in the spring motivated Steve to continue training during the fall months, when practice is held three days a week and runners meet at 6 p.m. in Solmssen Court, Hamilton Hall.

Benefits
Steve says that his running club teammates love the therapeutic effects of running.  “They see is as pseudospiritual - it’s both an individual and a group sport," he explained. "You push yourself to the next level to see what your mind and body are capable of but it’s also very communal because you’re running with a support network.” Students also like seeing their professors who are in the club in a different light.
