Show Cards

I got my show cards in, and they look great. I've left a few piles around the school. Our opening is just around the corner. I finished my paper and have started handing it out to my panelists. I'm atually finishing up all of my work and I'm starting to feel really good about all of this. I'm really proud of all the work I've done and all the people I've met.

One thing that still bothers me is that I'm going to be leaving the school pretty soon. I'm not coming back in the fall after a nice summer break. That makes me a little sad.

Building Things

I'm planning the layout for my thesis show and that means building pedestals. I realized that I'm actually pretty good at it and since I have a job as a monitor in the woodshop at night, I have plenty of time to make them. Other people have started asking me to make some for them (and they offered to pay me). I'm starting to check off more and more things on my to do list for the thesis show. I only have about amonth left as an undergraduate student.

Website

I just started working on my website. Link It's really just a place where I can start posting my portfolio images. You should check it out. Once I get some products up I'm going to link it to my etsy.

I've also been working of things for my thesis show. I've got my files for my postcard done, and I'm going to be making buisness cards. Now all that's left is to finish all of the art for the show!

Long nights ahead

It's only the first week after spring break and I already feel like I'm falling behind. We're drafting postcards for our show. I'm skeching layouts for my thesis gallery space and realizing that I need to make a lot more work to fill it. I'm still working on my thesis paper. I have to keep on top of making books to sell and to top everything off, I have a midterm tomorrow morning. I'm still in the studio and it's about 1am; I think I'm spending the night here.

From the way things look, there will be a lot more nights just like this one.

Thesis Paper! Oh no!

Tomorrow my first draft of my thesis paper is due, and even though it's supposed to be 8-10 pages mine currently hits about 2.5. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't struggling. My biggest problem is I don't know what is actually revelant to my point. I could go on and on about how I'm a neat freak and that means a lot to my studio practice, but I don't think my thesis panel will really care too much about that. So now I'm stuck talking about other artists I've looked at and why I relate to them. Thing is, I try really hard to not be anything like the artists I admire.

Site Specific Work

I'm going to be working on some site specific work pretty soon and putting it all around the school and surrounding areas in the city. I've done it before and you may or may not be familiar with the fake lightswitches and outlets from last year. I have some new and interesting things in mind this year so you should keep an eye out for things that are out of the ordinary.

Graduation Fair

On Wednesday I went to the graduation fair. There was lots of stuff to do to get ready for the end. There were tables set up in a big circle and there was one for class rings, checking to see if our credits are in order, checking to see if our loans are in order, and cap and gown measurments. At the end we had to take a survey about our experience at the university. It took about a half hour and was really really boring.

I'm glad to know that everything is all in order for me to graduate and now it's all up to me.

Snow!

We have had flurries off and on all day today, and it's pretty cool. I think snow is pretty when it's coming down, but a pain to shovel. It's great that nothing has been sticking so it's just been sparkly and white all day. I'm not used to it being so cold though. We've had so many warm days this winter that whenever it's a little colder I find myself really underdressed. I still kinda hope we get one substantial snow this season. It doesn't feel like winter without it.

Theis

Everytime I hear that word, I get a little dizzy. I can count the weeks until the show on my fingers and toes, and really soon it'll be just my fingers. I'm not so worried about how well I'll do with writing my thesis paper or making the art for the show, but more about the fact that this is my last semester. So far everything has kind of been planned in my life--school and friends and going to the mall and I always knew I would go to college. Now it's all up to me. UArts has been my home for almost 4 years and pretty soon I'm going to have to find a new place and a job.

New classes

So I went to my Senior Seminar class for the first time on Monday. Even though it's only a 1.5 credit class, it seems like it's going to be a lot of work. We have to write a bunch of papers and work on our artist statements and resumes. The whole idea is that once we graduate, we know where to go and what to do to get this kind of jobs that we want. It would be interesting, and I hope that I get some good information out of it.

Multidisciplinary '12
Rockaway, NJ

I'm a senior Multidisciplinary major here at Uarts and I focus mainly on Sculpture. I really enjoy working in the woodshop and metal shop, but most of my work is some combination of every material I can get my hands on. In my spare time I love watching movies with friends and playing video games. I like experimenting with cooking and using friends and family as guinea pigs.
