Escaping the Vortex

It was definitely a crazy winter break here in Philadephia. I'm sure as most north-easterners know there was the "polar vortex." I don't know about you, but back in my day, we just called it a cold front.

A refreshing break before the craze of finals

Thanksgivvukkah is sadly over. For the first time in hundreds of years, and for the last time in hundreds of years, this unique holiday provided a much needed refreshing break from the end-of-the-semester push that had tired everyone out.

We are done with Chicago...but hey, look! It's Bernada Alba!

Well, Chicago is done with. It was an amazing show, and if you got to see it, then congrats! If not, sorry, you missed out. Chicago was an experience I will never forget. To start off with, I was able to work in the Merriam Theatre, which is a professional theatre. Secondly, not only did I work with IATSE crews, which is the professional union for theatrical stage employees, but I got to work with materials that I have never worked with before. Getting to work with scaffolding and trusses was an incredible experience.

Chicago at the Merriam Theatre 3/22-3/25

The big show has arrived everyone. Today was the first day of the load in for the Ira Brind School of Theatre Arts' production of Chicago. Chicago, for those of you who don't know, is a musical written by Kander, Ebb, and Fosse. It is the longest running american show on broadway, and it is currently still running. The show is going to be in the Merriam Theatre next weekend starting with an open dress on wednesday and opening night being friday. Thursday is a preview performance. I would absolutely reccommend to come see Chicago if you can.

Creation

So one of the best parts about this semester, is that I have been able to start doing things that I have never done before, that I have been wanting to do forever. I realize that is one of the points of coming to a specialized school, but its something that just struck me.

Leadership on Campus

Being a member of the Emerging Leaders program has honestly been an eye opening experience thus far in a good way, and it can only get better. It has shown me my faults at being a so called "leader" in the past, and it has allowed me to not only become a better leader in and amongst my theatrical colleagues, but it has allowed me to become better friends with everyone around. The program has taught me a lot of invaluable skills, some of which I am already putting to good use.

Whats A Super bowl?

Coming to an arts school, I didn't expect there to be a huge sports culture amongst the students, but it was incredible what I really experienced. On one end, we had the kids who actually really cared about the game, who know the stats and the players. Those kids are few and far between, and I happen to be one of them. On the other end, we have people who literally don't know what the super bowl is. I think it was really interesting how some people just literally don't know what it is. I honestly respect that decision in a lot of people.

Second Semester Classes

Well by now, I have had all of my classes at least once. Here is the rundown.

My writing class is actually going to be pretty cool this semester. We are looking at 1950's films and I think that it should be pretty interesting to look at cinema in a decade that Im not actually all too familiar with.
