Why UArts?
“I chose UARTS primarily due to my extraordinary experience at the Pre-College program in 2003. At that time, I knew very little about acting and techniques and desired to have a greater knowledge of a craft that I loved so much. After attending the Pre-College program, I was overwhelmed by the leadership in my professors, especially Mr. Johnnie Hobbs and decided that this was the university for me. UArts is almost like a second family for me and I appreciate attending a university where my professors care and the education is outstanding.”
Future Plans
“One of my main goals is to revive African American theater. I also hope to eventually start my own theatre school for young adults who aren’t as privileged, but desire to pursue theatre.”
What do you like best about UArts?
“The TEACHERS!!!! I cannot express enough how wonderful my professors have been at UArts…..They have become more than just my professors, but my mentors and main supporters of my art."
Favorite lesson from a UArts professor
"One of my professors once said, “People are drawn to truth, they know when something is true or not.” So we as artists must first be drawn to truth in order to reveal the inner workings of life…. we, the artist will be seen as doctor’s of life….scientists of imagination…..educators of the unknown….The brilliance of the artist will evolve into a mechanism that cannot be destroyed. I look forward to that day.”
Favorite Role in a Performance
“In the fall semester of my junior year, I was in a play called Venus and played Venus. The play was invited to attend the regional finals of the Kennedy Center American Theater College Festival - I received an Irene Ryan Nomination at the festival. The director of this play was Johnnie Hobbs, Jr., the Associate Director of the Acting Department at UArts”.
Awards and Scholarships
-Gary J.Wheeler Scholarship (for UArts acting majors)
The teachers and even my own peers at UArts help to motivate me to be a better person, a better artist and through that resonating and positive energy it encourages me to do the same for them. UARTS supports and embraces passion for the artist and that is what will keep art alive and that is what will keep the world moving and changing always.”
