UArts Pre-College Summer Institute

PHILADELPHIA (February 28, 2008) – If you are a young artist and want to push yourself to your personal limits; expose yourself to new ideas and techniques; live within a community of artists in an exciting urban environment; and learn from dedicated and talented instructors, then the Summer Institute at The University of the Arts is the place for you.

The month-long residential programs in Acting, Art and Media Exploration and Musical Theater and two-week programs in Dance and Jazz enroll nearly 400 high school rising juniors and seniors aged 16-18 from over 30 states and numerous nations.

“The Pre-College Summer Institute will challenge the imagination and expose participants to dynamic and interesting people, including their peers and teachers,” said Institute Director Erin Elman. “At UArts, we have created a dynamic environment where high school students can find their way in the world as artists, thinkers, creators and performers, both within and outside the classroom.”

The 2008 Institute begin on Monday, July 7. The Dance and Jazz programs wrap with concert performances for parents, teachers, friends and family on July 18, while the Acting, Art and Media Exploration and Musical Theater programs end on August 1 with a rousing crescendo of exhibitions, shows, showcase performances, readings, presentations and screenings.
