UArts to Inaugurate Sean T. Buffington as President

PHILADELPHIA – The University of the Arts commemorates the inauguration of Sean T. Buffington as its president with an investiture ceremony on Friday, April 18, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the Merriam Theater.

“Inauguration is a powerful opportunity for the University to engage the educational and cultural community in a celebration of the arts and creativity,” Associate Provost and Director of Inauguration Laura Zarrow said of the Inaugural events. “It marks the beginning of the next exciting phase in the long and proud history of the University.”

The week-long symposium series “Improvise/Commit: Conversations on the Creative Process” precedes the investiture ceremony and will bring together the entire UArts community past and present for master classes, conversations, workshops and performances exploring innovation, collaboration and the role of the arts in a digital- and media-rich world.

Chair of the Inauguration Committee Eleanor Davis said she is pleased to officially welcome Buffington as president and is looking forward to UArts reaching even greater heights under his leadership.

“This University is dedicated to educating the next generation of creative leaders by inspiring students to learn, create, lead and contribute to society through the arts and media,” said Davis. “I know the passion within the UArts community will help make President Buffington’s inauguration a landmark event, expanding the prestige of The University of the Arts, a truly unique institution.”

As part of the Inauguration events, the University will hold its first “all-years” alumni reunion April 16-19. The reunion will include sessions for alumni, faculty and other professionals to share insights and innovations in artistic practice, technology and career development, an alumni “town hall,” class dinners by decade, and “just for fun” events that will bring classmates together again.
