ANNOUNCEMENTS

Additional Registration Opportunities for Spring Semester
Students who missed registration or wish to make changes to their classes for the upcoming semester will be able to do so through December 21 and again January 4 - February 1. Spring 2010 classes begin on January 19 and registration will continue to be available through the Drop/Add period, which ends on February 1. Registration will be closed during the University's Winter break (December 22 - January 3). Contact the Office of the Registrar at 215-717-6420 with any questions or if you need further information.

H1N1 (Swine Flu) Vaccinations for Students
The University's Health Services Office will be administering the H1N1 flu vaccine on a first-come, first-served basis from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday in December. The vaccine is free of charge and available to students under 24 years of age.

Faculty Grant Funding Information Session
The University-sponsored Philadelphia Applied Research Lab (PARLab) is hosting an information session about funding opportunities for faculty. PARlab creates opportunities for faculty to further their research-based work providing funding for projects that connect academic and professional communities. PARlab supports faculty in presenting in academic and professional realms and in applying to additional funding sources. Grant applications are due January 25. An information session will be held the first week of classes in January. All application information will be available online following the session on Monday. UArts Alert
In an effort to communicate emergency information more quickly and effectively to the University community, starting Monday, December 14, UArts Alerts will be sent automatically to the @uarts.edu e-mail accounts of students, staff and faculty. If you are currently set up to receive text messages via a cell phone, this service will continue. To manage your UArts Alert preferences to receive emergency information in a text message to up to two cell phones and/or add a second e-mail address, go to the University's portal or click on the MyUArts Portal link on the University's homepage. After entering the portal guest page, sign in with your user ID and password, and follow the directions posted on the portal welcome page.

Alumnus Plotnick Creates Promotional Video
Walter Plotnick MFA '06 (Printmaking/Book Arts) produced and directed the four-minute video "Think Art" to promote the Fine Arts program at Montgomery County (Pa.) Community College. Plotnick is a lecturer and the program's director.

Solot Featured in 'New York Times'
School of Music faculty member Evan Solot was featured in a New York Times story about his work with the Philadelphia Complaints Choir, for which he composed and conducted. The choir was also featured in the first issue of the University's Edge magazine last year.

The University community is invited to attend a reception for "m(eye)environment," the exhibition hanging in the President's Office suite. Launched in July at the Fels Community Center in Philadelphia, this program was created to enable today's youth to develop an appreciation and basic understanding of their environment through digital photography in playful, informal surroundings.

Blast of Blueberry Video Contest
The University's Student Financial Services office encourages students interested in film and theater to enter the "Blast of Blueberry" video contest. Further information about this and other new opportunities are posted to the University's online Scholarship Bulletin Board. Additional information can also be found on the scholarship bulletin board outside of the Student Financial Services Office on the second floor of Hamilton Hall. Students applying for scholarships and/or grants who would like help compiling materials, organizing applications or editing essays should contact Amanda Black, Associate Director of Student Financial Services, at 215-717-6137.

Design Contest: Design Lindsey Vonn's Olympics Ski Helmet
As the best Alpine skier in the world over the past two seasons, American Lindsey Vonn has big plans for the Olympics in Vancouver – and they could include you. Submit your original artwork and it could be selected for the customized helmet Vonn will wear on the slopes at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver in February. Design guidelines, rules, prizes and entries are available online. Submission deadline is December 21.

Roger Hane '61 Retrospective
Magazine images, book covers, record jackets and advertisements from the 11-year career of the celebrated artist Roger Hane '61 (Illustration), the illustrator of C.S. Lewis’s Narnia series, the rock band Cream’s "Goodbye" album and Carlos Castaneda’s book A Separate Reality. Roger Hane: Art, Times & Tragedy (Vanguard Publications) was published this summer and contains nearly 300 pages of art and biography of the prolific illustrator who met with a senseless and untimely death in 1974 at the age of 35.
