Important Student Health Insurance Announcement
The University of the Arts requires that all students carry health insurance either through their own insurance company or a plan offered by Academic HealthPlans and billed through the University. Students who wish to waive the University-sponsored plan must provide proof of private health insurance coverage by completing an online waiver. The deadline to complete the health insurance waiver is July 15, 2009, for the fall semester, and January 1, 2010, for students who are entering the University in the spring. If the waiver is not completed, students are automatically enrolled in the University-sponsored student health insurance plan.

Information detailing the Academic HealthPlans insurance coverage is available online. This plan provides health coverage whether at school or not from August 15, 2009, through August 15, 2010, for $604.

As you consider the Academic HealthPlans insurance option or your own, please keep in mind that you must have at least $50,000 of coverage with a major medical plan. Also, since costs of specialists, X-rays, laboratory work, ambulance service and emergency room visits are not covered by the University’s Health Services or our partners at Jefferson Family Medicine Associates, it is essential that your health insurance policy cover these specific expenses. If you have questions regarding health insurance coverage, please feel free to contact Health Services at 215-717-6230.

Ordering Stationery
Business Cards:
The Business Card Request Form can be download as an editable PDF under staff resources on the portal. After filling out the form, your supervisor must sign it before you forward to Personnel Services for final approval. Business cards are ordered about once every two months depending on the number of requests.

Letterhead: The University no longer has generic letterhead. Every department will have department-specific stationery. To order letterhead, contact Jim Maurer in Publications at 215-717-6412 and he will send you the three design options. Please reply with your choice along with information for the letterhead such as the phone and fax numbers. You can order blank second sheets at the same time you place your letterhead order.

Envelopes: Most departments will be using generic envelopes, which can be ordered from Distribution Services. For departments that require department-specific envelopes, direct your request to Jim Maurer in Publications at 215-717-6412..

NEWS

Michael Grothusen: Life's Joys—Life's Disappointments
Foundation faculty member Michael Grothusen is a Philadelphia sculptor whose work is rooted in architecture, memory and experience. As part of the James A. Michener Art Museum Outdoor Sculpture Program, Grothusen will exhibit his large-scale sculpture "Life's Joys—Life's Disappointments." Influence for this work comes from looking at commemorative vessels of all types — sports trophies, urns, fountains and other forms of public monuments or memorials. Through changes in scale, material and patterning, this work goes beyond these initial references and asks questions about the similarity of the vessels and their relationship to our everyday lives.

Pew Fellowship Awarded to Staff Member Jennifer Levonian
Academic Support Services staff member Jennifer Levonian has been named a 2009 Pew Fellowship award winner in the media arts category. The $60,000 fellowship awards for 2009 are the largest such grant in the country for which individual artists can apply. This year the awards went to artists working in fiction and creative nonfiction, media arts and works on paper. Jennifer’s work involves cut-paper animations that explore the ambivalence of everyday life, with the goal of bringing into focus unnoticed events and transforming them into bizarre and uncanny ones.

This is an opportunity for young—and young-at-heart—filmmakers to promote positive change by illustrating that at work, it's what people can do that matters. How you do this is up to you.
