Important Student Health Insurance Announcement
The University of the Arts requires that all students carry health insurance either through their own insurance company or a plan offered by Academic HealthPlans and billed through the University. Students who wish to waive the University-sponsored plan must provide proof of private health insurance coverage by completing an online waiver. The deadline to complete the health insurance waiver is July 15, 2009, for the fall semester, and January 1, 2010, for students who are entering the University in the spring. If the waiver is not completed, students are automatically enrolled in the University-sponsored student health insurance plan.
Information detailing the Academic HealthPlans insurance coverage is available online. This plan provides health coverage whether at school or not from August 15, 2009, through August 15, 2010, for $604.
As you consider the Academic HealthPlans insurance option or your own, please keep in mind that you must have at least $50,000 of coverage with a major medical plan. Also, since costs of specialists, X-rays, laboratory work, ambulance service and emergency room visits are not covered by the University’s Health Services or our partners at Jefferson Family Medicine Associates, it is essential that your health insurance policy cover these specific expenses. If you have questions regarding health insurance coverage, please feel free to contact Health Services at 215-717-6230.

Pew Fellowship Awarded to Staff Member Jennifer Levonian
Academic Support Services staff member Jennifer Levonian has been named a 2009 Pew Fellowship award winner in the media arts category. The $60,000 fellowship awards for 2009 are the largest such grant in the country for which individual artists can apply. This year the awards went to artists working in fiction and creative nonfiction, media arts and works on paper. Jennifer’s work involves cut-paper animations that explore the ambivalence of everyday life, with the goal of bringing into focus unnoticed events and transforming them into bizarre and uncanny ones.
