WILMINGTON, DEL. (May 27, 2009) – Alternatives Museum Shop at the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts will feature work by the recent graduates of the Crafts department at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia in the artist show "On the Rise" from June 5 through July 31, 2009.

A select group of students have created innovative ceramics, fibers, jewelry, metal, wood and glass multiples in addition to one-of-a-kind pieces for the show. All items are available for purchase.

"In creating the new work, [the students'] charge was to be as creative, inventive and passionate about this work as they were for their thesis work," said Crafts chair Rod McCormick.

Opening Reception is at the DCCA (200 South Madison Street, Wilmington) on Friday, June 5, 2009, from 5 - 9 p.m.

About the Crafts Department at the University of the Arts
At the University of the Arts, an innovative curriculum allows each student to design a program that best reflects his or her particular interests and goals. Faculty are active mentors, advising students in their choice of courses in ceramics, fibers, jewelry, metalsmithing, wood, furniture, and glass. Students focus on one medium or follow an interdisciplinary approach to their craft. Technical instruction and an ongoing studio dialogue encourage students to establish a personal identity through their work.
