School of Dance on Stage for Masterworks and Spotlight Concerts

PHILADELPHIA (April 22, 2009) – Students from the School of Dance at the University of the Arts hit the Merriam Theater stage (250 S. Broad St.) this weekend for two different concerts: Masterworks and Spotlight Dances.

The Masterworks concerts are being staged Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 25 at 2 p.m., and feature work by renowned choreographers. The Spotlight Dances, which are Saturday, April 25 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 26 at 2 p.m., feature choreography by School of Dance faculty members.

The Masterworks concerts include choreography by world-renowned guest artists Twyla Tharp (“Moving Out”), Louis Johnson (“The Wiz”), Kabuki Master Isaburoh Hanayagi and Paul Selwyn-Norton from Amsterdam. School of Dance students will perform Tharp’s “Noir,” Hanayagi’s “Jongara,” “The Return” by Selwyn-Norton and Johnson’s “Forces of Rhythm.”

During the Spotlight Dances, student dancers will be performing the original works of faculty members Roni Koresh (“Standing in Tears”), Ginger Cox (“Intricacy of Self”), Curt Haworth (“A Stage Too Far”) and Brian Sanders (“Threshold.”).

The School of Dance’s next performances are May 1 and 2 at 7 p.m., when they deliver their “Tribute to Hollywood Musicals” at the Merriam Theater.
