PHILADELPHIA (February 3, 2008) - UArts Illustration faculty member and alum Bob Byrd brought to life the words of author Laura Amy Schlitz in the Newbery Medal-winning Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! (Candlewick Press), a children’s book of monologues and dialogues by 22 characters in an English village in 1255.

Together with the Caldecott Medal, the Newbery is considered the most prestigious award for children’s literature in the United States and has been awarded by the Association for Library Service to Children of the American Library Association each year since 1922 for the best American book for children.

Quickly climbing The New York Times best sellers list (No. 5 on the children’s best seller list), the book was called “Brilliant in every way” by Kirkus Reviews.
