Record Number of Music Students Chosen for Prestigious Collegiate Orchestra
Congratulations to five School of Music seniors who have been named to the 2017 Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Jazz Orchestra. In addition, another UArts senior was named a first alternate. The honors were the most from a single school in the history of the competition. The students are:

Women in Film Production Panel Hosted by UArts’ Writing for Film + Television Director
On November 29, Diane Walsh, director of the Writing for Film + Television program, moderated a panel discussion titled "Women in Non-Traditional (for women) Production Jobs Today" for the Greater Philadelphia Film Office and Philadelphia Women in Film and Television. The event took place at the Prince Theater on Chestnut Street in Center City.
Graphic Design Faculty Member’s Work Wins GDUSA Award
Graphic Design faculty member Monna Morton received a 2016 Graphic Design USA American Graphic Design award for creating the design for The Colored Girls Museum Festival. This design was used to promote the festival at the Fringe Arts Building on Columbus Blvd in Philadelphia this summer, and it will be published in Graphic Design USA's Annual.
Film by Animation Master Lecturer Now Available for Free Streaming
After two years in cinemas and on the festival circuit, Animation faculty member Elliot Cowan’s film The Stressful Adventures of Boxhead & Roundhead, is now online and available for free streaming. The independent animated film was featured in dozens of festivals across the globe. It chronicles the friendship of two characters through loss and redemption in a story that takes them through deserts, jungles, oceans and ultimately the big city where they meet their greatest obstacles—day jobs and the art world.

Winter Dance Series at Merriam Theater and Solmssen Court
The School of Dance at the University of the Arts presents its Winter Dance Series, with three programs at the Merriam Theater from December 8 through December 11 and another program in Solmssen Court on December 7. The series features UArts students performing works choreographed by faculty members and visiting artists.

Image & Performance Show at Caplan Studio Theater
The fall 2016 "Image & Performance" showing of selected works will be presented on Friday, December 13 at 9 p.m. in the Caplan Studio Theater. Staged each semester by students in Master Lecturer Kathy Rose's Image and Performance class, this interdisciplinary performance art show integrates live performance with video, costumes and lights.

Film + Video Faculty Member to Present at Barnes Foundation
At the Barnes Foundation, UArts Film + Video faculty member Sosena Solomon discusses the prolific body of work of Henri Cartier-Bresson and his understanding of capturing a “decisive moment.” Bresson was one of the most influential photographers of the 20th century. He is most known for his street photography, capturing subjects using the fly-on-the-wall technique, which has made an enormous impact in the world of visual documentary storytelling.

“Nocturnes” at Seraphin Gallery
Craft + Material Studies faculty member Don Miller is one of the artists featured in Seraphin Gallery’s current exhibition Nocturnes, a group show also featuring selected pieces by Natalie Alper, Casey Matthews, Louise Nevelson, Laura Sallade, and Howard Silberthau. The exhibition runs through December 11th. Painting, drawing, and sculpture are exhibited in this display, and show an interplay between media and form.

Alumni and Faculty Fiber Artists in Wayne Art Center Exhibition
Craft + Material Studies program Director Mi-Kyoung Lee curates "Making Marks," an exhibition at the Wayne Art Center that brings together 15 national and international fibers and textile artists. In addition to Lee’s own work, the exhibition features pieces by UArts faculty members Warren Seelig, Jeanne Jaffe and Andrew Dahlgren MID ’07, as well as alumni Cindy Friedman '78 BS (ID), Piper Shepard ’85 BFA (Fibers), Susie Brandt ’84 BFA (Fibers), Dot Vile ’13 BFA (Craft + Material Studies), Qiang Gong ’13 BFA (Craft + Material Studies), and Carla Fisher CERT '16 (Fibers/Textiles). Lee has also organized the participation of the Making Marks artists in the International Fiber Art Fair at the Hangaram Art Museum, Seoul Art Center in South Korea in June 2017.

Unique Chairs, etc.
"Unique Chairs, Etc.," an exhibition at Allens Lane Art Center in Philadelphia, takes a look at chairs that invite, startle and amaze. The woodworks are presented by three artists affiliated with Philadelphia, notably UArts alumna Rebecca Kolodziejczak BFA ’16 (Craft + Material Studies) and Visiting Artist Keunho Peter Park, and, Marc Andre Robinson. They explore the literal and metaphorical concept of the chair. A throne by Kolodziejczak, a cocoon chair by Peter Park and sculpture by Robinson are folded together to give the viewer something new, when contemplating a structure designed for sitting or reclining.
