School of Dance Receives Prestigious Invite to Centre National de la Danse in Paris
The School of Dance has received a prestigious invitation to “Camping 2016,” the Centre National de la Danse’s international showcase and workshop being held in Paris, France, this month. The invitation marks the first time in the history of the workshop that an American school has been selected for this important event. UArts is among 16 of the world’s top dance centers to receive the coveted invite and will perform a piece by Netta Yerushalmy as part of the showcase on June 25. 

Faculty/Alumna Named 2016 Pew Fellow
Congrats to alumna and longtime faculty member Andrea Clearfield MM '84 (Piano), who was awarded a $75,000 Pew Fellowship from the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. Clearfield is one of 12 Fellowship recipients for 2016 whose work represents the Philadelphia region in music, dance, theater, poetry, sound design, film and interdisciplinary practices. More info >>

Recent Grad Wins '3x3 Illustration Annual' Merit Award
Congratulations to recent grad Corey Brickley BFA '15 (Illustration), whose piece for Huffington Post Highline on gun control in prisons earned him a prestigious merit award from 3x3 Magazine’s Illustration Annual No. 13. The long-form article, titled “The Shooting Gallery: When Correctional Officers Carry Shotguns, the Result is Death and Mayhem,” featured seven of Brickley’s motion-enabled illustrationsRead the article >>

Students, Recent Grads Win Top Rough Cut Film Festival Honors
Several University of the Arts Animation and Film +Video students and recent graduates received top honors at this year’s Rough Cut Film Festival, a showcase for filmmakers under the age of 25 hosted by UArts June 13-20. Winners included Best Animation for “Hanging” by Nick LeDonne ’17 (Animation); Best Documentary for “Asphalt Cowboy” by Tyler Larm BFA ’16 (Film + Video); and Best Narrative and Best Actress (Jessie Jordan) for “White/Wash” by Isaiah Freeman BFA ’16 (Film + Video)

Liberal Arts Professor Gives Lecture in China
Liberal Arts Adjunct Associate Professor Virginia L. Bower gave a lecture titled "Cataloguing and Curating: 30+ Years of Chinese Art" at the Nanjing Museum, one of China's largest national museums.

Climate Change: Emily E. Erb
Presented by the Hamilton Hall Public Arts Initiative. A Richmond native, Philadelphia-based artist Emily Erb was first introduced to silk painting while an undergraduate, but she honed her skills while traveling to Madagascar for three months from 2005 to 2006.
