Photography Professor Wins Gold Independent Publisher Book Award
Photography Adjunct Associate Professor Barbara Proud has been named a 2016 Independent Publisher Book Award gold medalist in the Gay/Lesbian/Bi/Trans Non-Fiction category for her photo book First Comes Love: Portraits of Enduring LGBTQ Relationships (Soleil Press). The awards are intended to bring increased recognition to the thousands of exemplary independent, university and self-published titles published each year.

Recent Theater Grad Named McKnight Playwrights' Center Core Apprentice
Recent Ira Brind School of Theater Arts graduate Sarah Galante BFA ’16 (Directing, Playwriting + Production) has been named a 2016-17 McKnight Playwrights’ Center Core Apprentice, one of only three from across the country to be selected. She is also the sole undergraduate student named to the prestigious program. 

Theater Alum's One-Man Show Featured in 'Philadelphia Inquirer'
The Philadelphia Inquirer calls Michael Doherty BFA ’10 (Musical Theater) “one of the city's most reliable young talents” for his performance in Theatre Horizon's production of "Fully Committed," a one-man comedy that has the UArts grad playing 36 separate roles. Read the article >>

Alumna's New Album Featured in 'Spin' Magazine
Spin magazine reviews S**t Bug, the forthcoming album by alumna Lindsey Baker BFA ’05 (Photography), MFA ’11 (Sculpture), aka Guts Club, out July 1 on Moderate Fidelity Records. This is the second release for the New Orleans-based lo-fi folk singer and video artist. Read the review >>

Animation by Film Alum Awarded Top Festival Honors
“There’s Too Many of These Crows,” an animated film by Morgan Miller BFA ’00 (Film), was named the first-place winner in the independent film category at the 47th ASIFA-East Animation Festival held May 15. It also won Best Animated Film at the recent Stockholm Experimental and Animation Film Festival held April 24 in Sweden. Watch the trailer >>

Liberal Arts Professor Presents Paper on 'Hamilton'
Liberal Arts Professor Toby Zinman will present a paper on the hit musical “Hamilton” at the International Federation of Theatre Research Conference taking place in Stockholm June 13-17.

ID Alum Partners with Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education
Analog Watch Co., Philadelphia’s premier boutique watch brand founded by Lorenzo Buffa BS ’12 (Industrial Design), has partnered with the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education to offer homeless and transitioning youth and their families free access to experience and learn about the natural world. A portion of each watch sold from Analog’s Classic Collection will help fund the Center’s programming. The Schuylkill Center joins a growing list of nature-focused non-profits that are advancing their core missions with the support of Analog’s “Inspired by Nature” ethos.

Professor Participates at Mixed Ability Dance Meeting
School of Dance Assistant Professor Connie Michael, who also serves as associate dean of Liberal Arts, was invited by Axis Dance Company to participate in a discussion about the future of physically integrated dance in the United States with key stakeholders in the field at Gibney Dance in New York City, May 16-18. Michael is a master-certified DanceAbility teacher and serves on the executive board of DanceAbility International.

Work by Professor Emeritus Selected for International Conferences
“Hà Nội,” a video piece by Professor Emeritus Thomas Porett, has been accepted into the Online Digital Gallery D-ART 2016, being held in conjunction with the Information Visualisation Society’s 20th International Conference in Lisbon, Portugal, July 19-22. “Hà Nội” was also shown recently at the Computer Graphics, Imaging and Visualization’s 13th International Conference held in Morocco.

Basic Intro to Entrepreneurship

Carver Audain is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice has centered around immersive environments for nearly a decade.
