UArts alumna Kelly Meissner BFA '11 (Illustration), creator of the innovative clothing line Ugly Apparel, has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help raise funds for producing sleeve wrap prints and tees. A Philadelphia-based company that uses a new printing process allowing graphics to mimic the way a tattoo enhances the human form, Ugly Apparel got its start thanks to a Wells Fargo Fellowship Grant from the University's Corzo Center for the Creative Economy as a part of its annual Creative Incubator program.
Meissner, a former tattoo artist, used her industry experience to create a clothing line that represents an amalgamation of quirky aesthetic, innovative design and a focus on using environmentally friendly materials. She hopes to further develop the Ugly Apparel brand and produce quantities of her unique designs that will allow the company to offer products at a reasonable retail price.
In addition to the Corzo Center and Wells Fargo, Ugly Apparel is also sponsored by Yards Brewing.
