Professor's Book Is 'Entertainment Weekly' 'Must List' Pick
'The Blessings' by Creative Writing Director Elise Juska on publication's list of 'The Top 10 Things We Love This Week'

The Blessings by Assistant Professor and Creative Writing Director Elise Juska is on Entertainment Weekly’s latest "Must List" of "The Top 10 Things We Love This Week." The book, which the magazine calls "uniquely poignant and prismatic," is featured in the May 23 issue.
The recently released novel has already earned high praise from Publisher’s Weekly, Kirkus Reviews and Philadelphia Style magazine, and was also named a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection for Summer 2014.
Juska, who received the prestigious Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award at UArts' 136th Commencement held May 15, also won the Alice Hoffman Prize for Fiction from literary magazine Ploughshares for her short story “Transfer Station.”
Juska is also the author of three novels published by Simon & Schuster: One for Sorrow, Two for Joy; The Hazards of Sleeping Alone; and Getting Over Jack Wagner, which was named a "Critic's Choice" in People magazine and optioned for film.
In addition to Ploughshares, her fiction and nonfiction have appeared in The Gettysburg Review, Good Housekeeping, The Hudson Review, Harvard Review, and many other journals and magazines. Her story "The Way I Saw the World Then" was published in The Missouri Review and cited by The Best American Short Stories 2010.
Juska began teaching at the University of the Arts in 2000 and, in 2002, received the Liberal Arts Division's Director's Award for Teaching Excellence. In addition to directing the Creative Writing program, she serves as faculty advisor for the student literary magazine, Underground Pool.
