Donna Faye Burchfield to receive prestigious award from Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance on May 26 in Israel
UArts’ School of Dance Director Donna Faye Burchfield has been awarded a prestigious honorary fellowship by the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance (JAMD) in Israel. The award, which will be presented at a ceremony on May 26 at the Academy, is given to distinguished artists whose artistic and educational visions have made a remarkable contribution to the fields of music and dance.
JAMD comprises three institutions: a conservatory, a high school and an Academy, with a total of 1,600 students. Recipients of the honorary fellowship are invited to offer seminars, master classes and talks to students and faculty in the undergraduate and graduate dance programs.
Burchfield was appointed professor and director for the School of Dance at the University of the Arts in 2010. She currently serves on the Dance USA Philadelphia Advisory Board and will serve as a co-chair for the national conference for Dance USA hosted in Philadelphia in the summer of 2014. In March of 2012, she served as one of the festival coordinators for the National High School Dance Festival that brought 1500 high school dance students and teachers from around the world to UArts.
Before arriving at UArts, she served as dean at the world renowned American Dance Festival (ADF) and as professor of Dance at Hollins University (HU). From 1993 to 2010, she developed and directed the international HU/ADF MFA program, the Post-Baccalaureate and combined BA/BFA programs in collaboration with the ADF.
