BBQ Restaurants Earn Alum James Beard Award Nomination
Dan Delaney BFA '08 (Multimedia), owner of BrisketTown and SmokeLine in NYC, up for prestigious award in Rising Star Chef category
February 20, 2014
Congratulations to University of the Arts alumnus Dan Delaney BFA '08 (Multimedia) [now Design, Art & Technology], owner of the hot New York City restaurants BrisketTown and SmokeLine, for being named a semi-finalist in the prestigious James Beard Awards in the Rising Star Chef category.
The James Beard Awards are the highest honor for food and beverage professionals working in North America. Winners will be announced at the 2014 ceremony being held in New York City on May 2 and 5.
Delaney, an aficionado of Central Texas-style barbeque, opened his hugely successful BrisketTown restaurant in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in 2012, followed in 2013 by his Manhattan location, SmokeLine, on the High Line in Chelsea.
The tech-savvy entrepreneur and gourmand got his start as host of "VendrTV," a web-based series highlighting food carts and locales all across the country. That venture took him to Texas, where he fell in love with its unique smoked brisket. So much so that he drove back to New York with an eight-foot long professional wood-fired smoker.
In the summer of 2012, he launched BrisketLab, a sold-out BBQ recipe-development series that took place at various pop-up locations throughout New York City. The lab gained national attention and culminated in the opening of BrisketTown, Delaney Barbecue's first bricks and mortar location.
