UArts, Peirce College Form Strategic Partnership
Peirce College and the University of the Arts have announced a strategic educational partnership to add greater depth to their educational offerings and better prepare students for the current job market. Peirce College will offer select business courses to UArts students seeking to bolster their business background, while UArts will open specific courses to Peirce students. This partnership will allow Peirce and UArts to combine their resources and rich traditions and leverage their respective strengths to better serve students. Read more >>

Student Check-In
All new and returning students may now access their MyUArtsRecord account to complete the newly required online student check-in process. Students: Please review and update your anticipated graduation date, parent and emergency contact information, residency status, and contact information. You will have restricted access to your account until the check-in requirement is complete. Additional information, including instructions for initiating the check-in process are located on the Student Check-in page located on the Office of the Registrar website. Questions can be directed to the Office of the Registrar via email at registrar@uarts.edu or by phone at 215-717-6420, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Save the Date: Art Unleashed 2014
Join us for the fifth anniversary edition of Art Unleashed, the University's largest fundraiser, set for April 9 – 15 in Hamilton Hall. The exhibition and sale raises money to support the Sam S. McKeel Promising Young Artists Scholarship Fund with artwork in all media from talented students, faculty and alumni.

UArts Alum Jared Leto Nominated for Academy Award
Fresh on the heels of winning a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Dallas Buyers Club,” UArts Painting major Jared Leto ’93 has just earned a shot at an accompanying Oscar statuette. The actor, musician, singer and songwriter, who plays a transgender woman dying of AIDS in the film, has been nominated for an Academy Award, also in the Best Supporting Actor category. Read more >>

Brind School Celebrates Shakespeare's 450th Birthday with 2 Spring Productions
The Ira Brind School of Theater Arts will be celebrating William Shakespeare's 450th birthday with two productions this spring: “Kiss Me, Kate” and “The Winter's Tale.” Directed by Brind School Professor Charlie Gilbert, “Kiss Me, Kate” runs March 27 – 30 at the Merriam Theater. “The Winter's Tale” is directed by Acting head David Howey, with performances set for April 18 – 26 at the Caplan Studio Theater. Music Faculty Give Stellar Performance at Jazz Conference
The Justin Binek Trio, featuring UArts School of Music faculty members Justin Binek (Piano and Voice), Micah Jones BM '99 (Jazz) [Bass] and Erik Johnson (Drum Set), performed at the annual Jazz Education Network conference, held January 8 – 11 in Dallas, Texas. The Trio’s set, which featured selections from Binek's 2013 album "Songbook," was praised by conference attendees for its musicality and creativity, with award-winning arranger, educator and performer Kerry Marsh noting Binek’s "excellence at his triple threat of writing/singing/jazz piano" on his website.

Staff Members Are Mummer's Parade Winners
OTIS/Support Services staff member Brian Feeney, Ceramics Shop Supervisor Patrick Coughlin and Assistant School Store Manager Mary Fluehr participated in the 2014 Mummers Parade with Fancy Division club Golden Sunrise, first-place winners in the Special Mention category. Feeney and Coughlin marched in the parade, while Fluehr did the group’s makeup. The Mummers Parade, which features an elaborate costume and performance competition, is held every New Year’s Day in Philadelphia.

Webcast: Drawing History
The Chemical Heritage Foundation will present a live webcast exploring how graphic novels, comic books and animation are used to tell true stories about science. The webcast will showcase two animations created by UArts students: the first animates part of a 19th century book that uses fairies to help children understand science, while the second brings to life a 17th century alchemy painting by David Teniers II.
