Liberal Arts Professor Releases Book of Poetry
'Each Chartered Street' by Adjunct Associate Professor Sebastian Agudelo explores urban life in Philadelphia
October 16, 2013
Each Chartered Street, a book of poetry by Liberal Arts Adjunct Associate Professor Sebastian Agudelo, has just been released by Saturnalia Books. Agudelo will give a reading from his new book on Thursday, November 21 at 7 p.m. in Connelly Auditorium in Terra Hall.
In his second book, Agudelo engages documentary poetics to dissect an inner city neighborhood and explore the social, political economic tensions and affinities as well as search for the humanness of living together. The book is bracketed by an introductory section that looks to the past to contextualize and complicate the contemporary questions, and a closing section that looks to the future for a more global and environmental definition of what a neighbor might be.
Agudelo is the author of To the Bone, winner of the 2008 Saturnalia Books Poetry Prize, selected by Mark Doty. He teaches "Age of Melancholy," "Greece: Democracy and Empire" and "Poetry Writing Workshop" at the University of the Arts and lives with his wife and daughter in Philadelphia.
